Author certification for high school students

Hello,

I teach a computer applications class at a high school. I was thinking that
it would be nice if the advanced students were able to obtain some kind of
certification on the Office suite of applications. I looked at the MOUS
test area on the Microsoft web site and I think they would be able to pass
the proficiency part. I teach in an economically depressed area but the
students are technically able. I want to help the students in their search
for employment as not all of them will be going on to college.

Questions:
1. Am I right in thinking that certification would be a good thing?
2. Will being certified in the Office applications be useful to the
students in obtaining a job?
3. Which is the best certification, MOUS or A+ or something other than
either of these two?
4. Cost is an issue. Our school district is desperately strapped for
funds. The nearest certification location for MOUS is 100 miles away. What
is the cost and is there some way to get the certification done locally?

Your help would be appreciated.

Bye,
Larry

>1. Am I right in thinking that certification would be a good thing?

It will help their morale and boost their confidence more than provide
job guarantees, but it's still good.

If they are getting a job using Microsoft Office apps, then yes. The
MOUS is most applicable to the general office worker and least to a
position such as a network admin.

>3. Which is the best certification, MOUS or A+ or something other than
>either of these two?

MOUS is Office applications. A+ is hardware. For a job programming
Unix scripts, neither will help. Otherwise, certifications may help
in their specific area. FWIW, nobody hires a certification, they hire
a person.

You could become a MOUS testing facility. You can also purchase test
vouchers in quantity at a discount.

right on jeff
I gotta agree with all of that

I know prometric pay their testing facilities (not sure how much but I know they do pay) and if the closest one is less than 100 miles away there is probably a market for this (just my opinion)
