Look up oldstudent's other posts. He posts glowing reports on NTTAP; a highly suspicious east coast "training and placement" company that appears to be paying apprentice wages to students with their own money. $15,000? You've GOT to be kidding!

I get the impression oldstudent might actually be an owner of NTTAP with his "testimonial" and accusations of slander.

I doubt, very much, if he was a student at LANWAN, Inc. Seems like LANWAN still has its "A" rating with the Better Business Bureau. This tells me that oldstudent was not a student there with a complaint, hence no change in their BBB score which would drop from even 1 valid complaint.

Oldstudent, can you give us your name so we can find out if you really were a student. So we can question LANWAN about you or look up your complaint to the BBB?

I'm thinking not......phony.

PS. Does NTTAP have a website? I can't find it anywhere.

I just found their website.

www.nttap.com

I do have to say that NTTAP has a nice website. I think I'll take another look at them.

I wonder when oldstudent will take lanwaninc down from their "A" rating with the Better Business Bureau.

I've posted a some real questions on this forum and there doesn't seem to be any real responses except bashing training sites and meaningless half sentence phrases promoting various study aids by camol and cobol. I'm still hoping for more help.

Also, there's no rating system here to help evaluate who to believe or not. Since there is no real way to judge any of the posters like Tomanac, cpuguy, or oldstudent from the forum (they could all be real or fake), I guess a reputable third party is probably the best way.

I did notice that the Better Business Bureau is mentioned a few times. And lan wan inc still has an A rating.

They have no complaints listed. They don't even have any resolved complaints. Which I think means that there are no complaints at all. I would think they would have complaints based on how posters here are describing them.

Not that my opinion matters much since I've learned mostly at work and with study aids and not from training places, I'd say the negative posters are probably bogus based on a reputable third party like the BBB rating them an A.

I attended HTI last spring. It was a week of fairly good technical training by some pretty intelligent folks. Worked my butt off during class, and learned a lot. The lab was excellent.
The deal was pay $1500 up front, go to class, get a job, pay a percentage of your salary to pay for school. They pay for testing, lodging during class, and offer placement. The training was supposed to continue for 18 months with two more weeks of training etc.
What we got was one class, and lodging. They balked on the testing fees, stopped offering placement assistance after about a month. Fired everyone I knew, and shut the doors. I think they opened up again as LAN/WAN inc. In the same office space!
Well...all they got from me was the $1500, which was probably a fair deal. I got a job after they closed but no more cash for them!
I tried to recoup the $1500 through VISA on the grounds that they stopped offering what I payed for, but Visa wouldn't refund anything.
Looking back I'd be a bit more leery.
On the good side I'm a sys admin for EDS on a big DOD contract.

My brother was called yesterday by American Placement and Technology, http://www.americanpat.com

Do anyone have information on this company?

They are selling training (MCSE) and guaranteed placement for $13,995.00.

He was offered $25.00 per hour to start.

I need help, is this real? It sounds great!

So owners of ICTP shut it down and became Hardcore Techies then shut that down and became LanWan Inc? Now an advertisement on Certcities says there's a company named www.techienation.net that has the same address as LanWan Inc and all promising the same crap. What’s going on, you tell me!

Lets not forget that ANY school offering technical training in California is required by law to be BPPVE approved and that can be verified by going to www.bppve.ca.gov and then clicking on the Directory of Institutions link. If a sales guy is giving you a pitch on how great their school is, ask them if they are approved and see what the response is. Regardless if you are a member of the Bearu for Better Business or the son of the President of the United States, running a school in California requires BPPVE authorization to protect the students.

In addition, always be wary of ANY schools that offer job placement since even professional recruiters can not guarantee you a job let alone some smuck trying to get you to sign a student loan for IT training. I got burned once so just giving my 2 cents if that helps anyone avoid what I went through.

You got it. ICTP, HTI, and LAN WAN are all the same people, promising all the same things, and from what I hear, not delivering it.

I attended ICTP in early 2003.

We were promised hands on training, certifications, temporary housing and job placement after the course was done.

The coursework was good. Learned a lot, and got some good tech documentation. The methods they had for teaching it were a bit strange, and kept changing every week.

The certifications, were actually ICTP certifications, not any industry standard certs. The certs that they had were nearly impossible, so that 3 of the 4 tests had less than 5 people out of 30 pass, and one test had 0 passes. They did have a testing center for industry certs, but not included in the course.

The temporary housing was 4 people in a 2 bedroom apt (not too bad) except that we got eviction notices half way through the course because they had not been paying the rent. They managed to sort it out with the apartment company to let us stay there. The CEO told us that he made an arrangement to pay them, but he admitted to us that he had no intentions on paying them...

The job placement was a total myth. THey said that they were working with headhunters to make a deal that we could take advantage of after we were done, but that never happened.

Then there's the money thing. The course was a bit expensive. They gave people the option of getting student loans for the bill. Some people took the option to get a loan for more than the course in order to have money to live on while they were there (several people came from out of state). I dont think that anyone who did this option ever saw any of the money that they were entitled to. That may have changed since, but at least 2 months after completing the course, people were still asking ICTP for their money.

Summary, it was a decent course, ONLY due to the trainers of the class. The trainers and couses were good, but the management of the company sucked.

I went to Lan Wan, Inc. in January 2005. Took a month long course, which was actually well done. They went over everything and the lab exercises were valuable. They helped me with the certifications (MCSE/MCSA/CCNA) and my resume as well.

Overall, I would say that the experience was positive. In fact, I was just offered a Systems Engineer position with a great company. So, I guess it worked out. But, do beware of one thing. They are not going to help you find a job. It took me almost 4 months to finally get an offer.

The training and certifications are worth it, but you are on your own when it comes to finding a job.
