| I passed 70-292 today. Has anyone made the 70-296? Is it nearly the same?
Any tipps for studying?

| If you focus on the things that have changed from Windows 2000 to Windows
Server 2003 with respect to planning and implementing a network and AD
infrastructure you should be in good shape. For instance there was very
little that changed with planning and implementing DHCP IP scopes but where
a lot of changes with certificates. Review the prep guide for the exam to
get an idea of where you feel you are strongest and could use the most
review and that should help you identify what to study.

| Hi, see my review at:
http://www.mcseworld.com/forums/inf...rticle&artid=27
This exam was much more difficult than 292, but then again it should be as
its an MCSE upgrade instead of an MCSA upgrade. Overall, very approachable
exam though. Best of luck!
Best,
Will

| FYI Just so you know, much as I'd like to check out that URL.....it don't work gov'
Monty
BTW I found the 70-296 a nightmare. Revise the 'obvious'; NLB and clustering (the /fixquorum switch is useful to know), What is Biztalk Server?
Clarify all you know about AD, AD server recovery, UNIX DNS, RoSP Planning / Logging modes, when to use secedit and gpupdate, where do you enable the DNS logging, when would you use conditional fwders?, nbtstat -c, is OSPF supported on Win 2k3 - yes, What is out of band management and the redirect option in boot.ini, when would you use a commercial certificate?, TCP port 3268?, transitive / no-transitive trusts, where do you enable universal group membership caching, When do you install the AD client Exstention software on Win 98 PC and when do you kill off 98 PC's? NT4 stuff: NTLM vs Kerberos V.5. SUS update location options and config.
Failed with 688 I'll try again in a couple of weeks!! | |

| Like I have posted in the other thread...What study materials did you use to prepare? I am having a tough time with 292.
Thanks,

| There is a huge range of exam resource available. I'm a particular fan of the Exam Cram series but also use the Microsoft press stuff in combination for the theory.
As for the practice I literally play with the life networks in the office. if your already MCSE you also can be trusted. Keep practicing. You CAN'T beat hands on.
Recently started in a new job and have lost focus on the 296 prep but I will do it soon.
Good luck

| Thanks Montypdj,
I agree, you ultimately can't beat hands-on. Skills and knowing how to get the answers are what you really need to do the job.
But I also noticed that certs and hands-on are mostly two different animals. Hands-on knowledge is like street smarts where what is important is what produces results. Certification seems more like a game of trivial pursuit - most of it is not very useful.
But thanks for the info. I have used Exam cram in the past and it wasn't one of my preferred study aids. But I'll take a look at it for 292, since you recommend it.
