How does Amazon dot com ID ?
|
|
| Tim Kettring 2004-03-28, 5:23 pm |
| ....without entering a user name and password...
I ordered a book from amazon.com weeks ago , and every time I go to the
amazon.com site , it thinks it knows my name ( even though the comp has been
turned off about 20 times since I got the book . )
I dont have to enter any info ( username or password ) to identify myself
for this to happen , so why does it think it knows my name correctly ? I
dont have any certificates either that I know of , and clean reinstalled
win-XP just before I ordered . I know that I did not install a certificate
from amazon.com . Or at least I wasnt prompted for one .
Do you suppose it knows my modems mac address ? ( if modems have a mac
address like NICs )
This happins on both dial-up ISPs , and I only used one ISP when I ordered .
Thanks , Tim

monitor. If word got out on that, Amazon would be in trouble.

Tim,
From here :

comes this :
"What About Cookies?
Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we transfer to your
computer's hard drive through your Web browser to enable our systems
to recognise your browser and to provide features such as 1-Click
purchasing, New for You, personalised greetings and storage of items
in your Shopping Basket between visits.
The Help menu on the menu bar of most browsers will tell you how to
prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, how to have the
browser notify you when you receive a new cookie and how to disable
cookies altogether. However, cookies allow you to take full advantage
of some of Amazon.co.uk's most innovative and useful features and we
recommend that you leave them turned on.
If you do leave cookies turned on, be sure to sign off when you finish
using a shared computer. Click here for more information on how to

Create an Active Directory-integrated zone on each of the divisional DNS
servers for the local domain only.
Convert the divisional primary zones on CorpDNS to secondary zones with the
appropriate divisional zone acting as master zone.
Configure the divisional client computers with the address of their
divisional DNS server.
Configure the divisional DNS servers to forward unresolved queries to
CorpDNS.
