| It seems that at this point in time, win2k is probably
the most pertinent. Many companies are migrating from
NT4 to 2000. It seems like the most logical progression,
but not always. My wife works for a large company, and
they are migrating from NT4 to win2k servers and XP
clients. Although XP dows have some server
functionality, it really isn't a true server class
operating system line win2k or 2003 advanced server. If
I were given the choice, take the 2000 MCSE track then,
if you wish, upgrade to 2003 which will only require 2
more exams. This way you get the best of both worlds so
to speak.

I have no experience with 2003....is it not worth it? We're planning an
upgrade to 2003 and XP (from 2000). I hope we don't have to un-migrate.

| I agree. Take the 2000 MCSE track. Just because 2003 is around it
doesn't mean everyone is jumping from WIN2000 (Sorry Mr. Gates).
Pleanty of great and cheap training materials available for 2000. Ger
the MCSE 2000 then down the road take the upgrade stuff at your
leisure and be the proud MCSE 2000 AND 2003!!
This is what I, the King, am doing!!
Just my .02 cents.
Thank ya' very much.

there doesn't seem to be a valid reason why we are going back other than
the fact the the new boss has a policy that he wants everything to be one
version behind the current or latest version offered on the market.
i can see where he is coming from, but it doesn't make a helluva a lot of
sense to apply that policy right accross the board without having actual
concrete proof to backup that decison. i guess the guy got burnt before
and now is paraniod.
personally, from what i have seen, 2003 is a great improvement on 2000,
which i think in comparison was not up to par. microsoft fixed and added a
few things here and there in 2003 which in my opinion makes lots of sense
to completely bypass 2000 and go straight to 2003.
the issues we may be facing is that some other vendors have not caught up
to 2003 yet, so they are only officially supporting their offerings on
2000. when it comes to missino critical apps, you don't want to take
chances.

??? I bet your boss has pointy hair, doesn't he?
Un-migrating has got to be more expensive than any unforseen glitches
that _might_ come up!
But then nobody listens to me at work, either.

| You thinkt hats intelligent-
Whenever a "critical patch" comes up that we're required to install, IE
when that virus came out a couplemonths ago, my boss insisted that our
technicians go to each individuals pc and install... I offered to
install SUS to do this automatically, but I guess he figured our time
could be better spent using 3 days to apply patches to over 500 people's
pc's.

That's an oxymoron.

| 3 different sites. It isn't so much that they had to go around and
install updates for each pc that bothers me, it was his reasoning. He
just didn't want to.
Another induhvidual reasoning:
We have a helpdesk system here, which uses sql as a backend. We are
switching to another helpdesk system, as we're merging with other
agencies and would like consistency. This one also uses SQl as a backend.
I was told that they are not compatible, and all data has to be entered
manually. I did a search on google, came up with a few good hits (I'm
not a helpdesk expert, hehe).
Beleive it or not, there is actually an "import" command available on
our new system, from various file types. OK. Tried to do this. "you do
not have admin rights on this system (helpdesk)" . I complained, told my
boss, he told his boss (head of new multi agency) and they decided its
too difficult to give me admin access to the helpdesk, they'd rather I
enter it manually.
Can you say bastards ? :-D Screw them. I was "not" hired for friggen
data entry. May I also add, out of 12 full time employees, we're down to
half. Everyone's quitting. I'm currently doing 3-4 peoples work, cause
they don't want to hire anyone just yet.
Anyways.
