I'm getting some confusing answers from two books
on "Integrated Windows Authentication" for IIS 6.0. One
book says that Integrated Windows Auth will work through
proxy and firewalls, but another says it won't.

Help?

The simple answer is no it does not. As stated here :

For exam purposes I would always suggest that you regard Windows
Integrated Auth for intranet purposes only and not for use with
Internet clients.
