| Hey guys,
This poor guy is posting because he's proud of his mom, and because she's
not sure where to get a job.
In your post you mentioned that your mom recently passed 70-210 but at the
bottom of the post you referred to her as an MCSE. If she has only taken
the 70-210 exam, she's not an MCSE, but rather an MCP. If she took all of
the other exams, and 70-210 was the final exam she needed for MCSE, then
she's an MCSE now.
If she has an MCSE, I would suggest she apply everywhere - to offices,
libraries, schools, and anywhere else she can think of. A large majority of
jobs are not advertised, and these places need their networks maintained
too.
If she is an MCP, I would suggest that she look around and see what she can
find - but she's probably going to be hard pressed finding even an entry
level position without having the full MCSE - unless of course she has years
of experience under her belt (which I don't think she does, going by your
post).
Oh, and congratulate your mom for me!

| Ya, what if...
But there was nothing in the original post that was indicative of a troll.
All I saw was a post from a young man who was proud of his mom, and wanted
to know where she should look for work.
The only thing I saw indicative of troll behaviour was the responses he
received ( however, its obvious that you guys are the newsgroup thugs and
are not trolls - if you were trolls you'd disappear and stop giving newbies
a hard time).
I don't know what else to say, except that I truly feel sorry for everyone
that felt they had to rip this young man apart. Your lives must be very sad
and depressing if you have nothing better to do during the Holiday season
than to make others feel bad.

I expect that's true, but then most of those people see this as
harmless fun and simply ignore it.
Then there are people like you which encourage stupid posts (either by
morons or Trolls), believing you are 'helping' them when really all
you're doing is giving them a good laugh.

| ICertify.net,
You seem to be a very professional person, which is what this newsgroup
needs.
However, I don't believe you understand what a "Troll" is. Most people
believe a newsgroup "Troll" is just an annoying poster that nobody wants
around. But that is not where the word "Troll" derived from in the context
of its use within newsgroups. "Trolling" is a technique fisherman use. As
such a person who comes into a newsgroup and posts an outlandish claim only
for the sole reason to hook people into believing his post is legitimate is
considered to be "trolling" for responses using his post as bait. A
newsgroup "troll" is someone who posts things that aren't true to waste your
time replying because you think the post is legitimate. Being new here you
probably don't know the ridiculous amount of trolls this newsgroup has seen
over the years. But the barrage of flames they receive from the MCNGP seems
to keep it down, except for the trolls they are looking to get flamed. But
they seem to eventually disappear as well.

Except that this "professional person" is quick to judge the MCNGP.
Paisley would seem to live in a sterile world, and cannot accept the
possibility that he/she was feeding a troll, because surely trolls are not
real. We must all be wrong. Let him/her live in his/her fantasy world.
Sometimes watching people obliviously reply to trolls is funnier than the
trolls themselves.

I'm sorry - maybe troll was an inappropriate thing for me to call members of
the MCNGP. Perhaps teenage brats that are the worst vermin to hit the net
since sewer rats would have been better.
I'm not new here. I've been frequenting this newsgroup for a couple of

This doesn't seem quite appropriate right now, as it's on a low
intellectual level. I hate to stoop to such lows, when, obviously, all of
us involved in this conversation are of high intelligence. There is no need
to resort to such low-balling. Can't we just insult each other in full
sentences? Why do we have to reach way down into the depths of rudeness to
come up with a satisfactorily derogatory comment?
Aw, screw it.

OK, he should be proud of his mom, if indeed this is a true post, but let's
look deeper...

She's taken a year to pass the 70-210, failing once. Ok, not everyone gets
it on the first go around, but after a year of studying, she still doesn't
know the difference between and MCSE and an MCP. Even though every book I
have read, from NT4.0 certs on, the first chapter usually lays out, if yu
pass these tests, you are an MCP, if you pass this set of tests you are an
MCSE. Strike one.
From his first post.... She doesn't know where to start looking for a job.
OK, lot's of people don't know where to start, but that should have been
decided before spending a year taking the first test.... Foul ball, strike
two
She's an MCP (or MCSE depending on the post) and has her son, who admittedly
doesn't know anything about computers post on the newsgroup for her...
Strike three.
And that's just on the surface without taking any real deep galnces at other
parts of her posts.
And in our, for what its worth department, you are the first person in this
thread to call someone names.... Hmmmm

Read the post again. If you notice that he called her an MCSE in the second
paragraph, the first paragraph could indicate that she had spent a year
studying for her MCSE, and had finally passed the last exam she needed to
write. I realize most people write the 70-210 exam first, but you don't
have to do it in any particular order, and I do know people who have left it
for later.

I've had a lot of newbies ask what type of entry level jobs they could
expect upon becoming certified, or where to find a job.

Okay, he didn't say he didn't know anything about computers, he said he
wasn't into computers. Why couldn't he post in a newsgroup on his mothers
behalf? As for why she didn't post herself - maybe she didn't want to,
didn't have time - or possibly didn't know how. Last time I checked,
Newsgroups101 was not a part of the MCSE curriculum. I've worked with
MCSE's who didn't know how to format a hard drive , so it wouldn't surprise
me if one didn't know how to use a newsgroup. Perhaps she has seen you guys
in here and was afraid to post herself. I can't speak for her.

No, actually I wasn't. You should read a little closer. The first person
to call someone names was Jar when he posted: "No, Doofus, you asked a
really STUPID question and got a like response." Learn to read.
I didn't actually call anyone a name in my first post. In my second post I
referred to you guys as thugs (oooohhhh - that's a nasty name isn't it).

So, you'll go away then? I find that hard to believe after you took

Um, look lady.. we're not here to hand-hold. I worked hard to get
where I was.. no one spoon fed me. Yes, I had people who 'mentored'
me, but they were utilized only when I'd already been unable to find
the answer myself.. and even then.. they didn't just answer the
question.. they gave me clues as to where to look for the answer.
Now.. Have worked my way to almost the top, I have to watch these
morons who hear an ad on the radio and want to 'get into computers'
try to navigate usenet without a clue.
I personally would like the MCSE to be able to keep what value it has
left... and quite frankly, if someone can't figure out google, or how
to find the right combination of tests on Microsoft's site... they are
simply too XXXXing stupid to be an MCSE. Plain and simple.
You, by running to get the spoon, open the jar, and play 'oh.. here
comes the airplane.. open the hanger', then wiping off their chins
afterward are helping to make the cert worthless... I'd rank that
almost up there with the braindumpers.
So, before you get all high and mighty about the MCNGP being rude and
whatnot... realize that we are simply trying to protect the value of
an investment... and the state of the IT world in general.
>Hope your momma's are proud of you boys!
Well... yeah, they are. I bring home more money than my parents and

Yeah, she is getting so much support that not a single person has replied to
her rant in her own forums. <VBEG>
Don't misunderstand me though--I also admire her spunk for standing up for
what she believes, even if it does seem a little deluded to me to try to
protect trolls. While I may not agree with what she says, I totally defend
her right to say it.
In case you were not aware, there are at least 2 MS-MVPs that are members of
MCNGP (yes I really am a MS-MVP for Windows XP). Admittedly we are more
restrained in our use of foul language in the public newsgroups than other
MCNGP members, but that doesn't mean we are any less likely to blast
braindumpers and trolls.
Careful now--if we don't watch out this could turn into a discussion instead
of a flame war.

| Larry,
You may not see posts on her website, but she does have a lot of support.
I remember the first time I posted here a couple of years ago. I asked a
question about a registry hack. I was pretty new to computing, and
completely self-taught, so I was unaware of a lot of the correct terminology
to use. I got flamed on this NG big time by the same jerks who are still
flaming people that they assumptions about. Nothing much has changed in the
last couple of years, except the MCNGP has gotten crueler and cruder in the
interim.
As to your being proud of belonging to the MCNGP, well, I've done a lot of
really dumb things in my lifetime too. I'm just not dumb enough to brag
about how I was that immature and thoughtless towards my fellow human
beings.
The day the MCNGP was formed the trolls won. They must be laughing their
heads off about ruining this NG. It's probably about 1/4 the size, and 1/10
the usefulness that it should be. You guys ran off most of those who won't
post because they fear getting flamed.

Why can't you, she, and all the others who think like you answer the

| You are correct in one sense - there are no comments attached to the article
on the homepage, but you've been missing the bigger picture. There is a
thread in my forums that started as a result of the article - I however, did
not start the thread, and I have received support in it. The interesting
thing is that Consultant is there daily trying to defend himself, but his
MCNGP buddies have yet to jump in and try to bail him out as he slowly digs
his hole deeper and deeper. Do they think consultant has gone to far.... I
don't know...but I do know their silence is telling more of a story than
their posts ever could. The article was already the fourth most read
article on our site within one day of posting it.
And although the MCNGP might not like it, the article is popular enough that
its been mentioned on other sites too now, and I have received support from
those sites.
Not to mention the fact that less than 24 hours after posting the article I
received my 300th thank you email for standing up to the MCNGP. I have no
idea what the count is now, as I lost track shortly after that point.
I do have to admit that at I was at first saddened that Microsoft allowed
members of the MCNGP to become MVP's. However, after thinking about it, I
realize that this can only be good for my case with Microsoft when I go to
them with all of the emails I've received about the MCNGP.

Hahhaa... 'go to Microsoft'? And what exactly do you think they can do

I had walked away from these newsgroups 6 months ago because I got fed up of
the stupidity here, not from my fellow MCNGPers but from the newbies who
post the same question as 15 other people that day, and don't bother to read
what the response was to other people because they feel they are special and
deserve a dedicated response. PLEASE try that in the real IT world and you
will find the unemployment line real fast, IT is a career that requires you
to be fast on your feet and smart or at least smart enough to know where to
find answers fast without pestering others. If a newbie posts a real
question here I am sure he or she will get a real answer I know I did 8
months ago and it was from a MCNGP so they do help when a real question is
asked. Unfortunately, there aren't that many real questions being asked here
and of course that is our fault right? NOT.
There is no need for the MCNGP to defend itself on this or any other issue,
this is simply a publicity stunt on your part to get attention for yourself
and your new site.
Yes we are cruel to trolls, and lazy wannabe MCSEs that can not do anything
for themselves and instead post here looking for someone to hold there hands
and spoon-fed them the answers. Does that make the MCNGP a bad group? No not
at all, but you need to take the comments with a grain of salt and relax.
I proudly joined the ranks of the MCNGP last summer as a direct result of
paper certification holders that caused more work and grief for me in my
daily job of administrating my company's network. The majority of those
people that have the various certifications it seems have only book smarts
and no hands on experience and they expect the more experienced and
knowledgeable to impart on them the skills and knowledge they should have
for being whatever certified. I have spent more week-ends and evenings
repairing servers than I care to count, because of MCSEs who didn't know
there asses from there elbows screwed up the simplest tasks.

I was not the one who fail for a Troll's posting.

So do I. She's got more balls than most blokes I know.

| Larry Samuels MS-MVP XP \(Shell/User\) 2004-01-03, 7:23 am |
| Hi Paisleyskye,
Very interesting--I need to subscribe to your forums and check it out when I
have some free time. I promise to behave myself. <VBG>
Just curious, why would you be distressed that MCNGP members were allowed to
become MVPs? It is simply proof that at least some MCNGP members are helpful
enough to be recognized by MS for their efforts.
I was a MVP long before becoming an honorary member of MCNGP. My posts here
have nothing to do with my MVP award as I am a recent newcomer to this
group.
Laura is the other MVP, and her award was earned by the quality of her posts
both here and in many other groups. The fact that she was a member of MCNGP
when awarded is secondary to the overall helpful nature of her posts.
As a MVP that promotes online communities, should I have accepted honorary
membership in the MCNGP?
Probably not, but I didn't join as a MVP--I joined as myself, an OEM
Systembuilder, technician, and consultant that has to deal with the effects
of these paper MCSEs on a daily basis.
Do I think the MCNGP goes overboard in their posts at times?
Without a doubt.
Do I support such actions?
Absolutely not.
Do I support the overall aim of reducing paper MCSEs?
H*ll yes!!
Do I think you have picked the wrong battle?
Yes--anyone with newsgroup experience spotted the son of Maggie posts as a
troll immediately. He/she is probably laughing his/her a** off at the furor
this has caused.
Had you chosen to attack on the use of foul language etc overall, you would
probably have received far more support.
Do I support you in you | | |
