192.168.14.0/24
Can anyone please tell me what 24 is for? I have
forgotten it.
I think it stands for 24 bits for the network????
I am prepairing for 70-215 and believe I have to
understand this.
:0)
Thanks!!

Yes, you are correct - /24 means 24 bits for the network ID, leaving 8
bits for the host ID.
It is essentially shorthand for subnet mask 255.255.255.0
- any address with the first 24 bits (3 bytes or octets) the same (in
this example 192.168.14 will be considered to be on the same subnet -
ie. will be contacted directly, not via the default gateway (router
interface)

Forgetting 70-215 for a moment, I would suggest that if you want to
become an IT professional, you should have at least a reasonable
understanding of subnetting. It's not difficult once you learn the
basics.
