As you finding out this mailing list has more BS than
anything else. Sometimes it is hard to separate the fly
shit from the pepper.

Some general guidlines on server sizing for Exchange 2000:

# of mailboxes <500, # of processors-1, memory 256mb
# of mailboxes 500-1000, # of processors-2, memory 512 mb
# of mailboxes 1000-2500, #of processors-4, memory 1GB
# of mailboxes 2500-5000, # of processors-4, memory 2gb

The above would not include requirements for public
folders, Instant messaging or chat. If you have more than
5000 mailboxes on a server you probably should upgrade to
a data center server.

Many PC makers like Compaq have sites for Exchange sizing
based on their expereince. If you know the brand of
computer you will be using check the manufacturer's
website.
