Microsoft has invited me to write 293 & 293 exams for 2003 server. Could anyone explain to me if these exams will be used to upgrade mces2000 to mces2003.

Nope, you need 292 and 296 for that. There just core exam which you do not need to write if your an mcse in 2000 and just want to upgrade.
