| As a responsible citizen, I obey speed limits and drive a fuel-efficient
subcompact automobile. However, in the US, many small-minded types buy
full-sized pickup trucks and SUV's to intimidate and tailgate their way
through traffic. In most cases, the cargo capacity of these vehicles is not
used. Moreover, in recent years, a growing number of women have joined the
"bigger makes me better" mentality. Finally, these people have no moral
compunctions about wasting excessive oil. They would rather send an
infantryman who for the most part, does not have the financial wherewithal
to finance a gas guzzler to fight a war, while they lead a selfish
lifestyle. I recommend raising the gas tax to price gasoline at a level
commensurate with the European level to reduce demand for these vehicles and
increase energy conservation. Does my proposal make sense to an impartial
observer. Most in the US will write it off as nonsensical BS.

If I didn't have an SUV, how would I pull my trailer with all my quads?

No. Because it effects far more than just the uncaring driver driving the
unutilized SUV.

It also effects the soccer mom that hauls her kids around in a
minivan. Most of them only get ~17mpg

I got like, 50 kids to haul around too... hence, the Expedition. Now I
just need to find a decent toy hauler that won't break the bank.

My wife and I are looking for one also, we just bought our son a KX60
and we still need to haul around his XR50 so we end up taking 4
bikes.. Where do you go ride? We mostly ride out in the desert, red
mountain or lucerne.

We ride mostly up north. We'll ride down south when we visit family down
there. Thanksgivings we head out to Dumont. Good dune riding there. We
are heading for the Oregon dunes in April.

Last time at Dumont I saw a guy on a bike underneath a big ole Chevy on the
side of the dune. There were at least 3 helo evacuations while we were
there. Good fun!

And on that note it affects me double. As a family man I
have a wife and three kids. She has a mini van and I have
a 4-door full size truck (Home improvement jobs often call
for large capacity that doesn't do well on the interior of
a vehicle)
I know you were looking for impartial but I had to speak
on this. Sorry this would not be a good thing. I agree it
cracks me up how many 4WD SUVs I see that never even get
dirty. And if you're attacking gas-guzzlers then hit the
big engine Corvette, Mustang, Viper, and other sports cars
that are built for one thing. Looks and speed. There's
some good use there..

Funny enough, I spent my night last night removing the
tires from my SUV to wash them off thoroughly. Had it
stuck in some mud something bad. 4 wheel drive was doing
nothing but kicking mud up in my buddy's girlfriend's face
(hey, she was standing in front of the truck... that's
asking for it to me). Got so much mud stuck to the tires
and the breaks... couldn't drive more than 40 mph before
it would shake like hell... Hey, SUV's are fun. If you
can afford them, Drive them. If you can't, then too
bad... Stop your damn whining.

I think you mis-read my post. I own 3 trucks,79 F150 Ranger super
cab that gets 7mpg since I put the 400 in it, a 2003 F250 Super Duty,
and a 1997 Explorer, and 4 motorcycles. To answer the question, yes
I like Ford's, I have never had a major problem with them.
I was just saying that it isn't only the SUV's that get low gas
milage, you need to look at the mini-vans and the V6 luxury cars also
if you want to complain about milage.
