| Thanks in advance.
I have identical Windows 2000 PC's built from Compaq image, using Static
addresses. They are logging onto 2 Compaq servers (2000 server as DC's, both
running DNS, No DHCP ). When the PC's are on the same subnet as the server
they log on quickly, The PC's I have on the other subnet take ages to pull
down a 500KB roaming profile, the DNS setting are correct- the 2 DC's on the
other Subnet, and I actually added them to the domain from the remote
subnet. They have registered correctly with the DNS server (Forward and
reverse lookup zones),They bring down policies correctly, map drives(by
Computer name, to the server) and I can copy a 5MB file down reasonably
quickly. I have tried new accounts with no roaming profile and still the
same. Occasionally I have got a "Semaphore timeout". NSLookup resolves the
servers correctly,
the only thing I have not tried is the hosts file, mainly because
frustration got the better of me, there are entries already in the host
files as these are developer PC's and they alter these as per their own
requirements. There are numerous oracle applications loaded- but there is no
problem when logging the PC on the same subnet as the servers.
Help and advise will be warmly welcomed
Thanks
Mike
PS All the servers and Workstations have service pack 2
