| Offensive?
It really is a fascinating subject. The North Vietnamese launched an all
out attack on the Tet holiday. Although militarily it was not a successful
attack, phsycologically it had great impact on the american involvment in
the war.

| I was under the understanding that it did give them a significant military
advantage.

Everyplace they attacked they were rebuffed. (As far as I remember). It was
a shock to the American psyche because of the fact that it was an all out
attack on all fronts including behind the lines. It just freaked people
out. That war was not a military defeat, it was a political disaster.
American military strategy was flawed too in my opinion. F'n army, they
adopted a strategy of 'sweep and clear' in which they'd clear and area, then
leave it. F'n tools. Marine strategy was to 'clear and hold', but then the
Marines weren't in charge.
