| Can anybody give me some info on using an XP Pro machine
to Administrate a Win 2000 network.
I can't install adminpak.msi on XP. Are there any known
problems about trying to do this? I use W2K at the moment
but am testing XP without much success! Am I better off
sticking with W2K Pro on my desktop to look after my
network?
TIA

You need to install adminpak.msi from beta3 of .Net server(s) in
order to administer from an XP box.

| ....or setup terminal services on one or more servers & use adminpak on them.
The plus to doing that is that you can login as a user at your desktop (not
too many permissions - so a virus, for instance, can cause only limited
damage) but terminal into the server and run that session as an admin.

You can use runas to run administrative tools in an administrative
context without being logged on as an admin. Terminal services does
bring up its own set of security guidelines, but with that said, I
love TS and use it constantly. :-)

Well, if you're not a beta tester or MSDN subscriber, you're probably
limited just to adminpak:
