| Wi-Fi Alliance Launches ROI Calculator
June 24, 2003
The Wi-Fi Alliance (http://www.wi-fi.org/) recently launched its ROI calculator tool, which it claims can be used by IT Managers and CIOs for building the case for deploying Wireless LANs in the corporate environment. This comes at a time where businesses are looking closely at wireless infrastructure, however, may be finding it difficult to justify the costs versus the benefits.
Built using Microsoft Excel, the calculator determines ROI based on the productivity gains associated with increased access to the corporate network. The tool works on the premise that making employees more connected increases productivity.
Results are presented in terms of dollars savings, or payback in months, relative to the upfront costs for installation, hardware and the recurring costs for IT support for the WLAN.
The tool is freely downloadable from the Wi-Fi Alliance website here http://www.wi-fi.org/OpenSection/WLAN_Calculator.asp
The Wi-Fi Alliance is a non-profit international association with over 180 members made up of the who-is-who of 802.11. Formed in 1999, the body's goals are to ensure interoperability of wireless Local Area Network products based on IEEE 802.11 specification. | |

| thanks meijin
a nice tool, but i felt a bit hard to navigate.
your mails (quicktopic), are also helping me a lot.
can u point me to some good articles on the following.
1. ppp over ethernet
2. frame-relay over ethernet
as those old cylinks are being replaced by new IP based radios, these tech are becoming important.

| Glad you like the WLAN news info...send your friends! I have just updated it this morning, so there is some new info there now.
I too found the ROI tool a bit hard to use, but it does kick out some interesting information...something to have handy anyway.
As to your other questions, I will have to check my bookmarks as I have a conference call to get on.
Thanks! | |

| Interesting....
Certainly not as mobile and the Alliance one seems to lend itself more to plugging in numbers directly to a justification type of document.
Thanks for the link! |
