Throughput Testing?

| First of all, I am wondering if anyone has any experience with NetIQ's Chariot product...either in a WLAN environment or wired LAN. How good is it? Anything you'd care to share?
Second, if not Chariot, then do any of you have any other experience with any other sort of throughput testing software?
Lastly, for throughput testing, what all are you looking at in particular? Speed, % load, BER? What parameters and thresholds?
Thanks! | |

| I just grab a binary (to stop compression from messing with the numbers) file off of my FTP server. That gives a real world figure. I'll also run a few hundred pings through the link to check for latency and any noticable packet loss. | |

| Well, while I can see what you mean....this is not exactly what I was looking for.
Your FTP example is only going to cover one single station...unless you loaded it up on each of the stations and started running it at the same time. That would not exactly be efficient.
Something like Chariot, unless I am mistaken and if I am someone correct me, will simulate the load of several stations. And you can also monitor TCP and UDP in both directions...among other things. Throw in a sniffer and you can do some even more advanced monitoring. That is what I am looking for.
More clear?

why done u check up www.flukenetworks.com
i think a product called one touch has this feature, not too sure though.

| Yeah, Keith turned me on to NetPerSec some time ago. But it is only doing a measurement. Not really generating any throughput tests. Not totally what I am looking for.
Thanks! |
