| I've been thinking about getting CWNP certified, Wireless is already my hobby, looking for a better job. How easy is it for some one not currently in the IT world to get CWNP certified and then find a good job?
Give me some feed back. | |

| emul hello there
sure we need new guys here
well if u dont have any background in IT, well i suggest you atleast study the core MCSE subjects first(four of them), no need to write the exams.
WLAN is not only about wireless tech, but also integration with LAN and stuff like, OS problems, driver conflicts etc.
also knowing PC hardware would be of great help anywhere in IT.

| Don't think it will be an easy process. You need a networking background to start with to work with wireless. And you will be working alot with hardware, so you will need that. And you will need to understand different operating systems.
Get your A+. That is always a good place to start. With that or while working on it, see if you can find an entry level tech job. If not, ask around and see if someone will pick you up as an intern. Even if you are working for free, you are getting experience.
Get an A+. Get your Network+. If you can, get your MCSA or MCSE. Shoot for a CCNA.
There's alot more to wireless than just wireless.
My two centavos anyway... | |

| OK, thanks for the feedback fellas.
Know any good places to start looking for internships? A couple of years ago I took a networking essential class, working on my MCSE, I know my hardware and all that good stuff, just dont have any official paper work to back it up. I've been working Landscape/Nursery stuff for the past 3 years, so I'm kind of out of the tech loop. Where are some good places to start looking for jobs and what I need to have to get them?
Thanks Again | |

| It is not clear from your first post or from your profile: do you have your CWNA?
That is the first level of this wireless certification (CWNP) and you have to pass that in order to sit for the CWSP.
Regardless, this is a good place for discussions and info on wireless.
As for getting back into the tech loop, entry level jobs and interships are hard to come by without experiance and certifications.
I would start studying again and pick up where you left off. Try to get a few tests under your belt. May open some doors for you that are otherwise closed.
Good luck! |
