| Hi all
I sat and passed the CWNA test yesterday.
My opinion is that the test is quite fair, except, i felt the language used on some of the ques was quite vague, and i couldn't make out what exactly they were asking.
I was quite disappointed that there weren't any RF Math problems, only very basic stuff like what ratio +10dB or +3dB equals.
The choose all that applies ques was the worst part of the test, however that can be overcome by thorough preparation by studying hard.
I purchased the CWNP WLAN guide and downloaded it. Very good stuff, adequate for preparation. I also used the Planet 802.11 Tutorial site. The articles by Jim Geier were priceless. WLANA web site was also helpful and the practice exams from Cert21.
Lots of definitions, standards and ques on Site Surveys both indoor and outdoor.
My score was 82%, and the pass mark was 70%.
I was quite disappointed with my grade, but i put it down to the ques being too vague in part. I enjoyed reading the CWNP WLAN guide so much, that i was hoping to get a higher score. Anyway a pass is a pass, and i'm gratetful to God.
I hope to move on to CWSE when it's out in the mean time PRINCE2 is my focus.
Regards

| congrats!!! btw:
1. are you in wireless industry already?
2. how long did it take you to prep for the exam?
3. how credible is this CWNP certs (for now, at least?)
thanks a bunch ... | |
|
| Hi BootData
I'm still trying to get into the Wireless industry; hence i did the exam. It took me about a month to prep for the exam and apparently the CWNP programme is supposed to be hot because it's the only vendor-neutral wireless cert programme out there at present.

| Congratulations on passing. I tested this past Monday and did not make it. I am scheduled to test again on the 12th.
I too was disappointed to see only one question about RF math and it was VERY easy.
What tripped me up was the WLAN Industry and Regulations. Oddly enough, my test had many questions about HomeRF and FHSS. Go figure.
Once again, congratulations!
|
| Hi Gclumpkin
Sorry to hear that you didn't make it this time. Don't give up, better luck next time.
If it's any help, visit www.wlana.org. you might find the info on WLAN Industry & regulations useful, i certainly did.
As i stated in my previous posting, the ques are quite vague.
Just go over the material again and attempt all the free practise tests you can lay your hands on until you score 100%.
I wish you all the best.

I am surprise that many high speed IT Pro is working on CWNA and CWNP. So far I don't see any job required or recommend to have this certification.
However, my question for you guy:
What is the value of this certification?
Is it helpful your job hunt?
Is the certification for wireless that hold the place at the market?
What is your comment?
Thanks | |

| My own opinion, Wireless is the next big thing in the IT industry, so the earlier one gets into it professionally the better for one, as you know the competition to get a job out there is high, so make yourself stand out in order to be outstanding | |

| The way I look at it is this: This area of networking is in it's infancy. Not long ago, Novell was the King and a CNE was sought after. Then Microsoft came in the picture and all of a sudden MCSE certification was the stuff. Then there is this company called Cisco....
I think you see my point, and it is this: I'm betting on the future. We are a mobile society and wireless networking will be a big part of that future.
That's just my opinion. Others?

| Wireless and Citrix have been growing technologies at my current job and in my previous position. I look for both to grow immensely in the coming years. | |

speaking of Citrix, I just received my cert in the mail: looks like *h**
but I like the pin that comes with the cert.
Nevertheless, again, it's the knowledge on Citrix that I was after, not a pretty paper

| Hi Flak, could you please post the links if you know any where we can look for free CWNA practice tests | |

| Passed my CWNA test today. (85%)
I studied the CWNA study guide from Planet 3 Wireless inside and out. ($30) - Good material.
I used the Quizware Planet 3 wireless practice tests to help prepare ($50)
No use in trying to memorize the practice tests. NONE of the questions were the same in any part.
Test was very vague in some parts.
Easy in others. Lots (maybe even half) of the questions were multiple answer questions.
- There are different versions of the test so be prepared for anything.
good luck! | |
|
| I'mm interested in knowing how to prepare for the CWNA and also want to know if the material available from www.cwne.com is sufficient to get an idea regarding what would be asked in the exam
Thanking you,
uday kiran | |

| Yes, I think the material on www.cwne.com is sufficient to pass the test.
I can only think of one question I was asked on the test that I don't remember reading anything about in the material.
(something about infrared being an 802.11 standard)

try http://www.cwne.com/products/CWNASGPDF.html.
it should be a good start for CWNA thingy.
| bwilliams 2002-10-13, 5:09 pm |
| Yes, the official planet 3 CWNA study guide should be sufficient. The previous link will do (see above).
As to studying time -
I read the text once (and highlighted important facts..)
I then went through again and wrote a study guide covering the main parts.
Then just went through the study guide multiple times.
-Blaine | |
|
| thank you.can i have a copy of the main points that you have written down from the study guide(of course if is a soft copy).Thank you once again for the information and also can u tell me how many people approximately in the world have passed the exam.

Uday. | |

| sorry,
I don't have my notes anymore (it was just paper)
Also -
I have not gotten my member login information for the CWNE site.
So I don't know how many people are certified (even if it does give that information away).
-Blaine | |
| bwilliams 2002-10-18, 1:37 pm |
| I contacted cwne and they said that the number of CWNA's is not public knowledge.
So I have no clue how many.

| I will be pursuing the CWNA certification starting Nov. 1st. I am finishing up my studies for Micrsoft's ISA Server 2000 and will be testing on Monday, Oct 28th. I have downloaded the study guide from www.cwne.com lastnight, and was wondering from a studying stand point, if this is all I will need to pass the exam. I am currently running 802.11a standard at home and have install an 802.11b wireless link at my job. Using Cisco Airnet, I am bridging three buildings with the Airnet 350 bridge, and have placed Cisco 350 Access-points throught the buildings in question. My company supports medical facilties, and we are combining the Cisco Airnet access points with the ViewSonic Viewpads to bring the medical stats to the bedside.....thats my push for the certification ...that and more money ofcourse!!
Thanks Again!

| Security & Wireless & Voip will dominate our industry. Being a security professional I see wireless as our biggest issue in the future, eventhough wireless is great and is changing our infastrucure, it's still very much in a premature stage for security and not many corps will spend millions or billions on a technology that can be exposed. Im working on the Giac FW course and will look into the wireless cert up to the security level for sure.
Security advancements & wireless advancements is why our industry is so amazing...
|
| i have cleared my CWNA exam today.
The exam was fair and requires thorough understanding of the concepts and i think the book on the website is sufficient to pass

| Just passed today with 78%.
i got 91 questions but 1 was just a survey question. no points to it. After participating in the forum i used the following.
1. official cwna guide - just distill it
2. no practice questions - since no one recommended any. (testking or boson )
3. free practice que from cer21
4. brian's notes - pointed by Meijin somewhere earlier.
5. cramsession white paper by Will Schmied. (good pointers).
Good luck to everyone. | |

| I passed the CWNA exam back on the 15th of February with a 76%. This was disappointing to me until I contacted Planet3 and was told the first time pass rate is only 55%. This makes sence because it it not an easy exam...the "Choose all that apply" questions will burn you if you are not prepared.
Tips for preparation:
1) Read the CWNA guide cover to cover at least 2 times.
2) Supplement your studies with industry publications such as magazines and journal articles.
3) There are not really any other books I would recommend reading cover to cover, but "802.11 Wireless Networks - The Definative Guide" did fill in some blanks as I went along.
Now I'm onto CWSP which is slated for release on 4/15/03. I hope, as well as most of us taking these exam, that the Wireless and Security markets truely turn out to be a lucrative niche market. Based on all the press both areas are receiving in the recent months, it should be.
As for any detractors that ask you "Why are you bothering with these exams? I don't see any employers requiring these skills," don't let this discourage you.
Tell them that waiting around for something to be in demand before you get trained in these areas can be counterproductive. The whole key is to exploit a niche in the market, and wireless and security have all the signs that these areas are going to increase significantly in terms of demand in the near future. Waiting for the market to be saturated with people versed in these areas will not help your cause.
If you are still waiting on the fence, its time to jump off. GOOD LUCK! |
