| Okay, last one for the month. (Damn! It's August already!)
This one is a little different.
What is the most important tool for diagnosing LDAP problems?
A)NetDiag
B)Network Monitor
C)NBTSTAT
D)LDP
E)Nslookup
F)None of the above
Extra Credit: What is LDAP? What is an example of an LDAP- compatible directory?
Good luck! See you tomorrow with the answer.

| i think its
B)Network Monitor
ldap is the protocol that AD uses to replecate and comunicate between DCs

| I believe the answer is F. None of the above.
Also, LDAP stands for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol and like Ghaouf said, AD is an example of this.

| quote: Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) A network protocol designed to work on Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) stacks to extract information from a hierarchical directory. This gives users a single tool to search through data to find a particular piece of information, such as a user name, e_mail address, security certificate, or other contact information

It suggests using "portqry".
You can also use Portqry in the following ways:
To troubleshoot Active Directory issues in which you have to verify basic TCP/IP connectivity, which can be especially useful in environments with firewalls.
To verify connectivity to TCP/IP ports that are used by Active Directory for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), remote procedure call (RPC), and Domain Name Service (DNS).
By the way...Today isn't the last day in july, unless you aren't posting a QOD tomorrow, July 31

| D can be useful, but A would be a better choice.

| Man! This one is bouncing all over the place! After this one, no more questions like this! Maybe not anymore period. (Seems I have a problem with wording questions.)
(I'll give you folks a hint, there is nothing to do with TCP/IP in the question.... or isolating network and connectivity issues.)

| I say D.
the example my instructor used for LDAP was to find some hidden users not accessable in AD.

| Ldp. A graphical tool that allows users to perform Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) operations, such as connect, bind, search, modify, add, and delete, against any LDAP-compatible directory, such as Active Directory. LDAP is an Internet-standard wire protocol used by Active Directory. | |
| mrfixit 2003-07-30, 5:21 pm |
| Okay, I don't usually do this, (heck! I never do this!) Look at this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...rt1/dsgch10.asp
About ½ way down the page, under the heading: LDAP Diagnostic Tools
quote:
Not all object properties stored in Active Directory are displayed by using the graphical tools that are included with the retail version of Windows 2000 Server. You can use Ldp to view these objects and their properties to assist in problem solving. Some object properties contain definitional data, called metadata, that provides information about other data that is managed within an application or environment. Ldp is valuable in that it allows you to see every object property in the directory service. You can also use Ldp to perform extended LDAP operations.
Needless to say, there will be no answer posted tomorrow.

| Excellent question, Mr.Fixit, even if it was a round-about method to get the right answer.

| Odd, it is in Support\Tools\Support.CAB on my disk and on an Eval copy as well.
The one from the web might be a more up to date version however.
