I saw that 218 counts as an elective for the MCSE. Does that mean i can use it for my MCSE and therefore just do 1 more elective instead of the usual 2 needed. Or once i've used it(for MCSA) does that mean i can't use it again.

It counts as an elective, so you would only require one additional elective.

Many people work this cert method

MCSA
210, 215, 216, 218
(216 is a required course for MCSE)

MCSE
217, one design test (219, 220, 221, 226) and one additional elective

Yup, it counts towards both. (MCSE-General elective, MCSA-Required).

MCSA - Core Requirement
MCSE – Elective

Which means when you achieve MCSA you only need one more elective for MCSE.
