I passed the 76-215 yesterday (already have 210). I would like some advice on what to take next. I was planning on going the MCDBA, MCSE route.
210,215,216,217,219,228,229. Is this better than the MCSA, MCSE route? Doesn't the MCSE one-up MCSA? Which test is recommended next? BTW, you participants in these forums are really great. I don't post much but I do follow the groups.

Thanks,

MCSA targets people who are interested in administration over designing. You'll need 218 + an elective to attain MCSA status.

Why waste your time with the MCSA security, when you can specialize in Security with your electives on an MCSE? You'd be taking a step backwards.

http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/...windows2000.asp

Here's how I'd do it.

MCSA
210
215
218
Net+

MCSE Security + (MCSA core)
214
216
217
220
227

It's going to cost you one extra test overall but it's money that's better spent than an MCSA Security, because you learn the design behind it over administration

Actually I was using the test's that G currently has. And after posting it I looked at the MCSA Security site and he could alter his path and still get the MCSA security by completing 214 and 227. Then continuing towards the MCSE security cert.

Winstoncpr that is what i am going to do
if i get the MCSA and then the MCSE i will only need the 214 exam as an elctive if i take the 227 exam
thanks though for the advice

Just to get some opinions here, in my case, would this path would work:

1) Pass the 218, apply my A+ and Net+ for the elective to gain MCSA W2K

-THEN-

2) Pass the 214, apply my Security+ for the elective to gain MCSA: Security W2K

-THEN-

3) Pass the 216, 217, & 220 for MCSE: Security W2K

It is unclear if this is a valid path based on the FAQs presented by Microsoft on the MCSA pages.

Any thoughts?

seems ok with me
if you have the security+ you do not need the 227.

MCSA Security does not allow for Net+ only Security+

So your path would be:

MCSA (210-215-218-NET+)

MCSA Security (lose Net+ it doesn't count towards this cert and Add 214 and 227) One Extra test at this point

MCSE Security (216-217-220)One extra Microsoft test over standard MCSE

I have A+, Net+, & Security+

MCSA takes A+ & Net+ and counts as (1) elective.

MCSA: Security takes Security+ and counts as (1) elective. Why would I need the 227 if I have Sec.+ already?

What am I missing?

214, your Security+ counts as the 227 exam

MCSA Security requires the MCSA core (210 or 270, 215, 218)

2 Electives (214, 227 or Security+ no other options)

MCSE Security requires the core four exams (210 or 270,215,216,217)

1 design exam (220 no other options)

2 Electives (214, 227 or Security+ no other options)
