| I apologize for being late with this one, had to work at the PC repair shop today. Here is today's question. Good response to yesterdays' Q of the Day! Caught a few people off guard. I did post a better explanation, hopefully.
You are the network administrator of an office that consists of three Window 2000 Servers computers, one Novell 3.12 file server computer, and 50 Windows 2000 Professional computers. Of the Windows 2000 Professional computers, 25 are running NetBEUI and IPX/SPX. The rest of the Windows 2000 Professional computers are running TCP/IP. Users are complaining that they can't communicate with one another across your network.
You need to fix the problem.
Required Results:
All clients must be able to communicate with one another.
All clients must be able to access the Internet.
Optional Desired Results:
All clients must be able to communicate with the Novell server.
Proposed Solution:
On each client computer, install TCP/IP only.
Which results does the proposed solution produce?
A)The proposed solution produces the required results and the optional desired result.
B)The proposed solution produces one of the required results and the optional desired result.
C)The proposed solution produces the required results but not the optional desired result.
D)The proposed solution does not produce the required results nor the optional desired result.
See you Monday with the answer! | |

| C. Having the TCP/IP protocol installed on all the w2k Pro clients will enable them to communicate with each other as well as the Internet. Novell 3.12 does not support TCP/IP however, so the clients would be unable to connect to it without the IPX/SPX protocol. | |

| And the answer is...
All clients must be able to access the Internet.
Optional Desired Results:
All clients must be able to communicate with the Novell server.
Proposed Solution:
On each client computer, install TCP/IP only.
Which results does the proposed solution produce?
C)The proposed solution produces the required results but not the optional desired result.
By installing only TCP/IP, the Windows 2000 client computers can't connect to the Novell server. To connect to the Novell server, you would require IPX/SPX.
Guess I have to get tougher questions. |
