Author Replication in AD

Just going through replication in AD and amongst sites. Some terms my book is throwing at me are schema information, global catalog, intersite, intrasite, USN, KCC, connection objects, sites, site links, bridgehead servers, site link bridges. Remember you must have a global catolog server per site and domain.

Is it just me or is this stuff hard to absorb. It's going through me like water through a sieve. I only have one domain at home so i can't set these links up.

Is there many questions on this in the test.
me? I dunno...

I dont know about 218, but you will have to know all of that and more for 217, and yes it was hard for me too.

One thing to remember if you get the hardware to set up multiple sites, trying to use a w2k domain controller as a router just does not work. multihoming a dc seems to cause havoc every time.

Remember me? I dunno...a member server is recommended for win2k server as a router or running remote access instead of a domain Controller..

I cannot specifically recall if ALL of those subjects were included in 70-218, however I am certain that many, if not most were. I seem to remember a strong application of group policy from an administraive standpoint.

I know these subjects are the focus of 217 & 220, and its best to know it inside and out.

Regardless of what's included in 218, as a best practice, its always good to know the material, it will serve you well in the future.

Best wishes,

-Jordan

all this knowledge is measured on 70217 and 70219, both AD exams. And you don`t have any idea on how much this knowledge is important to design real world networks structures!!. I made a design last week, who involve 3 sites, a DC / DNS / GC on each one, replication using a schedule, etc. until today, the event viewer is free of errors and all replications works ok. and all this thanks to the knowledge gained on 217 and 219.... pure AD knowledge.. and something about 216.... Network topologies, Dns location, dhcp, etc.... all is important on the real life....

Hey that's great Alex you're actually applying this in real life. What's the job market like in Mexico for IT. It stinks in my country. Literally 100's of people going for one basic entry level job. The only thing i can really go for are help desk jobs and 1st-2nd level tech support. I might create my own business just installing PC's and simple networks and learn more that way. I reckon there is a market for it in just the simple household. I can do door to door stuff but i would need a hardware supplier.

IT jobs are hard to find. You can start with simple taks on your own busineess and get better chances!!.. try to get better certs, make good services and get a domain and a webpage (goddady have domain names for 8.99 a year!!!)... and you will be success!!

IT market is living a bad moment. I was working for myself as IT Consultant, earning 45 dollars per hour, here at USA...but since 2000, people do not spend so much money on Computers and Networks (like 5 or 6 years ago). So, i had to look for a job in a company and left my Consultant work (i loved it 'cause i learned a lot each day). Now i earn less money (i'm in Hewlett Packard) but i recieve 2 checks per month for pay my bills.

¿Want to success? put your focus on your resume and "knock" the right door in the right time. And keep studying and certifying yourself.
