While studying IPCONFIG command, I am confused with these two switches: flushdns and registerdns.

Please clarify what situation I have to use /flushdns, and what situation I have to use /registerdns.

Thanks in advance.

/flushdns is used to clear the dns cache.
/registerdns registers your dns name with the dns server.

For example if you have a static ip address. Lets say 192.168.0.111 and the name associated with this IP address is comp05.domain.com. Then you decide to let this computer get an IP of the dhcp server. So you log on and when you do ping comp05 you are still finding that your computer is using the 192.168.0.111 IP. This is because the DNS cache has not been updated.

Then by using the above commands the dns will associate your computer name with your new IP that you got of the dhcp server.
