Although it didn't take me 15 mins like someone else.... you know who I am talking about..
I did complete my MCSA on Friday..

218 Was by far the easiest one of the four I completed.. nothing really stood out that I could post but there were a bunch of questions on Share/NTFS Permissions... a bunch of RRAS and a few on DNS.

Congratulations, way to go dude, tell us what where your study resources, how many questions, you rate it easy, hard, so so.

Anyway congrats dude, whats next?

Luisjo

I would've to rate it a 'so-so' with 50 questions. As with all test ref material, I used MSPress (cost me a bomb but will be kept on my shelf for ref material).

To be fair, I would've to qualify my statement on it been a "piece of cake", I had to put in tons of studying time & exam practice to get here, its not quite so easy. If it hadn't been for the long reading needed in the exam to get to the gist of the question, it would've been simpler.

Luisjo, I noticed you've just got MCP as your current cert & you've passed quite a few 70-xxx, don't mind letting us know how many 70-xxx have you got already? How many more to MCSE?

To answer some of the questions posted:

I have completed 210,215,216 and 218.. taking the 217 test next when i can find the time to study.. I am kinda getting burnt out. I attend class at night, tutor and work full time as a systems admin.. I stay plenty busy and because of all the time I spend studying, my dirt bike and harley have stayed parked and my recreational activity (drinking cold Yuenglings) as slowed dramatically.

I do my studying differently than most, I do use Transender and I have a small test network I use to answer questions I get wrong on Transender. I also purchased CBTNuggets Vids, they help some but mostly provide refresher information. Then I'll hit a bunch of practice exams online a night or two before I schedule a test. And of course I browse this site seeking as much information as possible. One thing I also do, thanks to TechRepublic, is to set a date in advance and stick to it. I'll usually schedule a test 2-3 weeks ahead of time and make myself sit down and study. I don't know about all of you but I can't afford not to pass... that is not an option.. 125 bucks puts a dent in my wallet everytime.

I would have to say without a doubt that the 215 and 216 tests really tested my brain power, I walked out of those tests knowing that MS put my brain through the ringer.. I thought they were really tough... the 210 was okay but the 218 test was really more of an easier version of the 215 with a little of 216 mixed in.

There was one question on the 218 that made me laugh.. basically.. Sally has SHARE Permission of READ and NTFS Permission of Read/Write/Mod./List Folder Cont (everything but full)... WHAT ARE HER EFFECTIVE Permissions..
Now tell me that wasn't easy. No Sim questions at all.
2 Questions on Unix with printing issues.. These are covered in the Transender test.. Easy.
There were about 5 questions on RRAS (VPN and Dial-UP) but nothing tough where you had to worry about the wording of the questions.. straight forward question.
I wish I could post a question about it..

Be sure to understand that you have to have computer accounts within an OU to manage those (or if you are delegating it to someone).. there was a question where users were put into a Global Group and that Global Group was put into the OU. The Admin assigns Mgr J Doe to manage that OU.. why would it fail.. The objects must be located in that OU of course.

Another type: Terminal Server; 2 domain controlers in a child domain, you have to give a user access to log on locally (via TS) only to one of those DC, not the other (or any in the entire forest).. what do you do? Well if you give her permissions to log on locally at the Default Domain GP, then she'll have access to log on locally to all DC within that OU...NOT! You will have to move that one DC to its own OU and assign the appropriate permissions.

Phew.. long post huh.. If I think of anything else, I will try and post it. I hope this helps someone out there.

FYI: Remember when taking the test.. you can't extend the System Partition, but you can mount free space to a folder that exists within the System Partition..

I hope to see more of the types of posts that I am posting. I am sure that nobody wants to see the exact question posted but a few tips that you can post will help everyone. Nobody knows it all... at least that is my take on it. Good luck to anyone that takes this test. Seeing that you read this entire post, and you have a quick question, you can email me it and I'll try to answer but I prefer if you post it here for everyone to view ... my email address is ron@ncfunds.com.

Answers are free, correct ones cost 5 bucks, good guesses are 3 bucks =) Just kidding.

Good one ScratchOne

You're right on, got something similar. I'm sure your post would really help out. What've you got to say about 216?

Good luck on the next one!

Tough test.. I think I posted something in the 216 forum after I toke it.

That was by far the toughest test (216) I have taken.. I finished with only 4 mins left..this may only be true for me though... someone posted that they toke the 218 in 15 mins which I find hard to beleive. Although it was easy.. I still my time and ready each question at least 2 times and it toke me nealy 2 hours.. They had 50 question/3 min ea. I like to draw out the scenerio when the question gets a little difficult to follow.

The toughest part in preping for the 216 was CA's, the moderator here in Examnotes put me on to a White Paper for that area which help some but unless you have to deal with that type of Security Issues daily, its not going to stick.. I guess you'll have to practice setting those up (as I did)

I just passed this exam today as well, I found it the easiest I've written so far (I've written 244, 210, 215 and 218), but my roommate/boyfriend/swedish guy found it the hardest he's written. Maybe it was just the questions I got compared to him. A lot of the questions were on basic basic things like shares and permissions, I had a few questions which required basic subnetting knowledge and a fair bit on active directory and group policy stuff, not to mention a large bit on IIS, RRAS my favorite (sarc.) Terminal Services. Overall, it's was pretty easy, probally wouldn't have done so well if I hadn't just took active directory in college. I guess its really dependent on what your good at really, I know shares and all the basic IIS and RRAS stuff pretty good by now and having just taken active directory in college (not the ms exam yet) It was very easy (for me at least).

Good job! What did you use to prepare for 244?

Who is the roommate/boyfriend/swedish guy?

For 244 I used the New Riders book and a ms press book on NT (It's back at my parents house now, so I'm not sure of the exact name). The New Riders book came with the whole examgear thing and its the text we were using in college so it worked out pretty good. I really don't know why this isn't a popular exam, it's pretty straightforward especially for people who had certs back in NT4. Hum, swedish guy is Jacob, him and I are in college together. He came and visisted me back a year ago, and then in July moved here. He's kinda cute for a computer geek. He's even younger then me, (I've become a cradle robber).

I learned NT is school so 222, 224, 244 and are looking good for electives. It's hard to find practice test software for them though. You gotta learn that M$ lingo first. I have the books, humm, just not ready yet.

Hey my ex-fiancé was older than me by a year and like 7 months.

Well.. I a Dec '83 baby, he's April '84. Is it possible to feel both young and old at the same time? He hasn't stopped playing splinter cell for the past week, all I've seen is the back of his head. Anyway, I'm cooking dinner and cleaning the fish tank at the same time... It smells of chicken and fish in here.. Kinda gross, just gotta keep washing my hands.

Not to far off. She's Apr '81 and I'm Oct '82. However she can't cook and won't do gross things like that.
