Author A+ as an MCSA component

OK - perhaps I'm being lazy and should do a little research, but I would like to know if my A+ certification (gained 4 years ago) can be used toward MCSA.

I have tinkered with Certification with some time and have A+ and both NT4 and W2K workstation and server MCPs.

I am currently studying for 070-218 but would like to get MCSA by the quickest possible menas with a view to adding the messaging and / or security tag later.

Any advise gratefully recieved.

Regards,

Funkster

The A+ can be applied as an elective toward syour MCSA, but only in combination with Network+.

It's the more costly route to go in terms of credit for one M$ exam, but A+ and Net+ are a great foundation for your MSCA, etc.

A+ and Server+ is another even tougher route. However it's do-able.

OK - thanks.

Looks ike I'm in for the long haul anyway.

I think doing Network + would just be going back over old ground.

The only Comptia elective I think I would consider would be Security + just to add the edge of specialisation and to hopefully open up a new line of study.

Security+ will help you get the MCSE or MCSA Security title.

Would any one recomend Choosing A+ as an Electtive along with Security + for an MCSA?

Thanks for answering my own question before asking it "isles1". Only with Network + can you choose A+ as elective. It makes sense since A+ doesn't have anything to do with Networking.

Most people apply their Comptia certifications towards their Microsoft certification only if they had previously achieved them. If you don't hold any Comptia certifications, I would consider just sticking with all Microsoft exams.

IMO, I think the Security+ exam will help build a broader foundation in network security than the ISA Server exam it replaces. I have the Security+ book for Sybex and it looks interesting but I haven't gotten to reading it yet. I will be cracking that book once I finish my MCSA and the 216 & 217 core exams.
