Question:

# 2. (70-218q195.) You are the assistant administrator of a Windows 2000 Active Directory domain. Your primary function is the deployment and maintenance of software across the network. After successfully testing Windows 2000 Service Pack in a controlled environment, you are ready to deploy it to your 2,100 clients. What should you do to have the Service Pack applied to all Windows 2000 computers in the network in a controlled, effective fashion?

A. You should create a GPO and link it to the applicable Organizational Units and publish the Service Pack to the users of your network.
B. You should create a GPO and link it to the applicable Organizational Units and assign the Service Pack to the computers on your network.
C. You should create a GPO and link it to the applicable Organizational Units and publish the Service Pack to the computers on your network.
D. You should initiate batch installation over the network from the command line with the "update.exe" command, specifying the IP address of each computer to be updated in a text file.
E. You should distribute disks to each department and have them install the Service Pack locally.

I believe the answer is "B" am I right? Can anyone give me a clear explaination with the answer. Publishing won't auto install it so it would have to be assigned right?

The assistant administrator should use an Update.msi package with a Group Policy to deploy the Service Pack throughout the domain. Therefore, in this scenario, "B" is the answer. Create a new GPO, link it to the applicable OUs, and configure the GPO to assign the Update.msi file under the computer configuration. The next step is to restart all the computers. The update.msi file will be applied and the service pack will be installed.
