| I have passed 70-16 and the first Term of CISCO`s CCNA. I allways need a lot amoung of time to callculate the subnetmasks. I just wan`t to be faster like 2 min and not 10 min. Maybe I have the wrong techniq.
Pls if somebody knows some links to pages where it`s explaint so I can easily learn and understand this post it.

not mine, from 3 com, but don't have original link anymore. very comprehensive, if you take the time to go through it instead of just browse, it should all become elementary.
edit: should note that at the end, read the appendix and go through the exercises.

| Here's an easy chart I write on my scratch sheet before I start every exam. I call it the magic chart! It's very easy to learn. With it, I can work subnetting problems in just a small fraction of the time it would take otherwise. Work some practice problems with it and see why I call it the magic chart.

Right on! 219 is next for me. Maybe this weekend if I can swing it or maybe next weekend if I can't. But soon in any event. Best of luck to you on the 219, assuming that is your next?

| Here is a great site to learn subnetting...
http://www.learntosubnet.com
I am not sure if I am mistaken, but I think calculating subnets for CIDR is actually a bit easier than if it was "classful" The reason why is that you don't have to worry about knocking off the first and last subnet, and the first and the last address in every subnet. so whatever the value that 2 to the N Power is, will be the answer for hosts and subnets.
I really don't know all that much about CIDR though, and the one thing that I wonder about is this...if you can still use the last address in a subnet, what happens to the broadcast address?
