| Having just completed 216 it's time to get a certification so 218 is the next exam.
Any hints, tips or advice for the 218 exam would be most welcome.
Is this a pass/fail exam like 216 and 217?

I just brushed up for two days on my troubleshooting skills for this one ... and looked into IIS at bit more.

Yes, this is a pass/fail only exam.

| Hi Wbafrank,
Thanks for the advice and comments, 216 was a mare to be honest, but I'm glad it's over.
Two days brush up? I was planning on three or four weeks revision like I always do, I must be going wrong somewhere!
Pass and fail again huh, no help if you fail is it and need to extend your skills on your weak area's.
Here's to the MCSA shortly then!

This exam is exactly what it states "Managing a MS Windows 2000 Network Environment."
Therefore, you need to know the system inside out so you can fix it. You just have to remember that you are only an administrator and not an enterprise administrator or you could go drastically wrong with this one!!
Out of the 20 MS exams I have taken I found this to be the easiest as I like troubleshooting so get lots of "hands on" and find out what can go wrong ....

| Keep climbing the ladder. This 218 exam is straight forward, anyone will tell you that. Basically covers mostly all the materials from the first three cores. 60 questions.
Also strictly pass/fail. If your still good on the materials from the core, these questions will stick out to you

| I love troubleshooting, it's why I'm an administrator. Thanks for the tip on administrator/enterprise administrator difference.
I'll just plough through the MS Press book and get loads of hands on like I normally do.
I thought that 216 was as taxing as IIS 4, both exams were frustrating and awkward.
I have 12 MS exams under my belt now. Hopefully, after the final MCSE exam I'll take a look at exchange 2000, ISA and XP before moving on to the CCNA forum.
It's so much better than having a real life, huh?

Hi Cross36, thanks for the advice, how did you find 216?

| 216 For me took me 6 weeks to prepare for. Frank know I post-poned my exam for a week more of studying. Technet was my guide. 216 I passed with my studying and Frank assisting me in my worries. I owe alot to him | |

| Congrats on the pass of 216! Maybe the RRAS questions just haven't made it to your side of the ocean
Best of luck with 218! | |

| As the majority of people are American or living in the US that start threads, you guys may have a different pool of questions to us in the UK.
That explains why I only had 2 questions on disk configuration in 215 and the threads said that disk configuration gets hit hard.
Same for 216 and RRAS and I spent a week on configuring RRAS on the internal modem and dialling in etc.
Probably something to keep in mind.
Thanks for the congrats.
KScheler, how far have you to go for you MCSA now then?

| Well, I finished my W2k MCSE by taking the 4 core and 219. I used my 2 electives from my NT4 MCSE. All I need to do is take 218 which I plan to do before summer's end. I've been pretty busy at work this summmer which has cut down on my prep time. I'll get back to it soon though. | |

| Most of my spare time is taken up by revising and study time so I have seen more of the summer and not been able to experience any of it.
I hope it's all worth it, but like you said finding the time to revise and a full time job leaves little time for anything else.

| I think we have the same exams here as in the US Sexy! I recently did 215 and there was a nightmare in the testing center which meant that I sat it 4 hours late. Much explaining to the (by now irate testers) was required! Suffice to say that there isnt any difference in delivery... I plan to start on 218 in the morning so I will race ya to the end! Ready? Set.... GO! | |

| I think 218 is quite a straightforward exam Sexy Lexy.. it is a mixture of 3 cores with the addition of certain extras.. such as IIS & how to configure & maintain it.. I don't think u need to worry to much about this exam.. most of the questions I got was like they tell u what's wrong & u try and fix it.. just basic troubleshooting questions.. as the xm title states.. Managing a Networked Windows 2000 Environment | |

| Well the exam is booked for a few weeks time so that gives me enough time for revision and hands on to complement the reading.
Rat, thanks for the offer but I'd rater sit the exam and pass instead of failing just for the sake of taking it before someone else, my notes from the core exams have been dusted off and the reading starts today along with the MS Press book of 218.
MCSA if I pass.
This leaves one for MCSE after that.

| Sorry Lexy! Didn't mean to stir ya up there! Of course you do it in ya own time, I can apprieciate that you are a level headed serious student of the art and yes its very important that you take a structured approach to this serious topic. It's always been my experience that a sense of humour is useful when following Bill!
I actually got Mike Meyers cheesey passport book, it was all the book shop had! As I am off to Geneva for work, I wanted something to read quick! hehe, It really is a horribly laid out book though, still even with its dumb gimmicks, it will do! Don't you just hate these memory exams? I mean this exam really looks like a no brainer! Having said that I thought that the 210 and 215 were easier than the original NT4's are Microsoft getting soft? Or am I getting wise (& old!)

| No offence taken there king rat, It would be great to rise to the challenge but knowing my luck I would have passed 216 and then failed 218 because I took it too lightly, which isn’t advised for any exam I don’t think.
I don’t think the exams are getting easier but I thought that anyone who has knowledge of Windows 2000 and has been in administration or support for a few years has a great chance of passing 210 and with revision 215 but I wouldn’t say that they were easy especially not to newcomers either.
I agree about you needing a sense of humour.
