I have been preparing for 70-218 and I am stuck in one practice. I am trying to deploy SP2 using the GPO's Software Settings. I have done exactly what the deployment guide says and my pc is not getting the SP. Could anybody give me a hint about what is the problem?

Thanx!

Can you give us an idea of what you did, so that we can try to see where you may have erred?

I did just exactly what the SP deployment guide from Microsoft says:

1. Create a network share and extracted the SP2 there
2. In the domain controller, create a OU and create a new GPO for that OU.
3. Edit the GPO and add a new package that in the case of the SP2 is the update.msi file.
3. Move the pc to that OU and make sure that the pc has read permission for the GPO and the Apply the Policy box checked (this is not in the guide, but it made sense for me).
4. Issue secedit.exe command
5. Restart a member server that is part of the ou.
6. Nothing happened!!!!

I have redeployed the package several times with no effect. I am clueless......

I think you'll find the following helpful:

Thanks for the link, i will try it to see the results. The only thing that is still "unclear" is why if the SP comes with a update.msi file, it can not be used?....
Nevermind i will try the instructions that you send!

Thanx!!!

Try downloading the SP2 Deployment guide at:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/win2000platform/Update/DeployGuide/NT5/EN-US/SP2Deploy.EXE

There is a list of steps on how to assign the Windows Installer package using a GPO.
