Q3. In the event that your Windows 2000 server fails to start, you want to ensure you can access your NTFS volume. You also want to be able to do it without using a floppy or CD-ROM. What should you do?
A. Copy the I386 folder from the W2K Server CD to the folder called \\Winnt\Options on the hard disk.
B. On the root folder of the hard disk, ensure the Everyone group has full control.
C. Once in Windows, run winnt32.exe/cmdcons from your W2K CD.
D. From the command prompt, run winnt.exe/cmdcons from the W2K CD. | |

| actually if you read the question word for word it says not to use a floppy or cd-rom. that leaves option b, this cannot be done with out going into windows, but windows won't start. and it just is not a good answer. so ignoring the request to not use the floppy or the cd-rom d is the best answer | |

| I don't believe that /cmdcons is valid for "winnt.exe".
The only viable solution that I see is to use "winnt32.exe /cmdcons" before a problem arises. | |

| dentonb2000 is right. I just tested it on my lab computer. You have to use winnt32.exe /cmdcons to install the recovery console. I hereby change my answer to C. | |

The CORRECT answer is "C". Within Windows 2000, Click Start, click Run , and then type (CD-ROM drive letter)
:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons
This will allow you to access your NTFS volume without a floppy or CD-rom in the event of a failure. The Recovery Console will now be one of the OS boot options! |
