| can somebody please assist me i have been trying to figure out terminal services now i know what it's used and when to use it so now i'm trying to configure it on my homelab i have been trying for over 3 frustrating hours and no %&@!*& luck i went to technet didnt really find any info so can you guys please give some links or books on how to properly configure terminal services.

| If you're talking about the Terminal Services which came with Windows 2000, here are the steps to follow:
1. Go to your server and install Terminal Services from the Control Panel. You may need your Windows 2000 Server installation CD to do this.
2. Create the client setup disks by using Terminal Services Client Creator under Administrative Tools.
3. Bring the disks to your client PC and install it there.
4. Done. Test it out. | |

| Now that you have terminal server working, test the GPOs feature of Windows 2000!!!! This will be great for your labs / knowledge and future exams (act directory / managing users / security, etc)

| depend on the number of licences you have.... i think... the terminal services licencing module have a help with a lot of explanations... if you have server with terminal services installed you can see in the help all information related about licences.... | |

| thanx cm2j i have one more question actually 2 questions.
okay this may sound dumb but i assumming that when i test out the GPOs, A.D. and manage users this is done remotely right? and my second question is where do i find information on how to properly configure application server mode now that i have remote mode configured? | |

| when you use terminal services and all terminal users have accounts in the active directory, you can put the users inside a Organizational Units and assign GPOs for this users. The GPOs are asigned to terminal services users when he login into the domain..... This works without problems!!!
Regarding the mode of use of terminal services, as you know, terminal services in windows 2000 can have two methods:
"Remote Administration," or "Application Server."
if you want change this you must follow the following steps:
1 - start
2- configuration
3- control pannel
4- Add/Remove Programs
5- Add/Remove Windows Components
6- When the Windows Components Wizard appear. Scroll down and find Terminal Services, and place a check in the box to the left of it. If you click the "Details" button, you will see there are two sub-components, "Client Creator Files" and "Enable Terminal Services." The first one enables you to create floppies to use to install Terminal Services on client computers, and the second is pretty self-explanatory. Click Next to continue.
The next screen prompts to install Terminal Services to run in one of two modes: "Remote Administration," or "Application Server." !!!!! Here you can change your mode....
