"jose" is the hostname for the FTP Server of the JACR company. If the second level domain name for the company is "jacr" and it was registered as a commercial company at Network Solutions, ¿what is the correct FQDN for "jose" machine?
a. jose.jacr.com.
b. jose.jacr.com
c. "a" plus "b"
d. ftp.jose.jacr.com | |

| I believe the answer would be A.(jose.jacr.com.) wouldn't it?
Correct me if I'm wrong but FQDN must end with a period. Applications (such as browsers) automatically add the last period for us, if we don't include it.

| I would go for .....
b. jose.jacr.com
| |
|
| Difficult one:
A & B is both in some sense correct and usable.
B is a FQDN since it contains both the host, the second level domain and the top domain.
Whether is is correct as in A to add the root is a little bit too academic to me. It it my experience that in most practical senses ( nslookup, ping etc. A works fine )

Hi, and welcome to this forum!!!!
Thank you my friend. I would reply in Spanish, but my writing skills are very poor (although I can understand it).
I hope to continue to contribute to these forums as I glean valuable information from them!!

| Good morning all!
My answer would be B. | |
| frazang 2002-11-22, 11:33 am |
| I'll go with B
But in answer C do you mean "A and B" (both are correct) or "A plus B" (put both answers together {jose.jacr.com.jose.jacr.com} to make the correct one). If your response is A and B - both are correct, then C is the most techically correct choice
Does this make sense? | |

Hi beautiful Michelle...how are you?....
Ok, its time to give the answer...and the correct answer is letter "C".
EXPLANATION:
Technically, a fully qualified domain name must include a period at end. This period represent the "root level domain". A quick exercise where we can prove this is try to resolve any domain using nslookup. If we do not put the period at end, we will get an error, because the FQDN must include this.
What happen here is that most modern browser put the period for us, so, technically, "b" is a correct answer too. But again, we can see with this example that the period is necesary for a FQDN.
