| I'm trying to practice some labs for my 70-270 and I can't seem to run a successful unattended install from a local CD.
I'm obviously missing something - please advise.
I run setup manager, create an answer file named winnt.sif on a floppy.
I boot from CD and begin install, but it never recognizes the answer file.
I want to be able to do this to a clean (no OS) machine.
Any help would be appreciated.
I've noticed the batch file that setup manager creates - am I supposed to do anything with that?
Thanks so much in advance, folks.
EDIT: BTW, I forgot to mention I tried leaving the default "unattend.txt" and batch file in before I googled and found the winnt.sif suggestion - no luv. | |

| and unnattended installs from CD with winnt.sif files.
There are several parameters that must be used correctly that differ from what would normally be used in the "unattend.txt" file.
Since setup manager created the file, they should be correct.
Have you read the guide that is supplied w/ the deployment tools on the CD?
I assume your machine is set to boot from the CD prior to trying to boot from the floppy and that the floppy is in the drive when the CD boots.
Other wise, you need to fully insert the floppy while the machine is displaying " press a key to boot from CD, or Booting from CD."
The file gets read very early in the CD start process so timing is critical. you should notice the LEd on the floppy light briefly as the setup file is read.

| I followed the instructions on this Site and it worked like a charm.

| Thanks for the replies, guys.
I'm pretty sure I haven't missed anything, but I'll run over it again - follow the site Deja-vue posted.
Thanks again. |
