| Hi
My book says that when you run setupmgr to create an answer file the file should be named winnt.sif.
But when I run setupmgr and create a file the file is named unattend.txt. I have no clue about this. I have used the file to do an install and it works just fine.
What am I missing here?
Thanks | |

| If you installing from cd and you put the answer file on a floppy you must remane answer file to winnt.sif. In all other cases you leave it as is. | |

One other question. What is the correct way to run the install? Put the winnt.sif file on a floppy and set the PC to boot from a cd-rom? Then when the install starts xp will find the winnt.sif file and use it during the install?
If you have a udf file as well do you just leave it on the floppy along with the winnt.sif file to run during the install? Or do you have to use a command line switch listing the usf file name? I don't think the MS book is clear on this point. | |

| For the first part of your question, yes just boot from cd-rom and setup will read floppy and look for presence of winnt.sif. As for the udf question I am not that familiar in the area, sorry. | |

| You cannot use a UDF file when booting to a CD. Use them when starting an installation from the command line. As far as file names go, an unattend installation file using RIS must also have a SIF file extension. |
