| There have been several machines that had Windows 2000 on them that I rebuilt with Win XP Pro. To make it as clean as possible I always reformat the hard drive (not the quick method) from within Setup after booting to the XP CD. I remove the partition(s) then reformat. When setup is complete and those machines restart, there is always the dual boot option with Win2K and XP Pro. I know how to disable the boot screen with the option to choose your OS and the time to display the option, but why does it appear at all when there should be no remnants of the previous OS after formatting?
I've even rebuilt an XP Pro machine with a new fresh copy of XP Pro using the same reformatting scheme as above, and I still get the dual boot option, but this time with 2 choices of XP.

| Have you tried booting to the Win2K partition by selecting it from the menu? (the boot.ini menu). I am guessing that it would not boot, but what you see is just the leftovers from the previous install. I have also seen this, but was not able to boot into the original OS.
I usually FDISK or DELPART my partitions, then recreate them before installing a new OS. Works well for me, but just my opinion.
