| Just got back from the testing centre after the exam.
First MS exam I have taken and I found it pretty tough.
I had questions from practically every imaginable part of the curriculum from wireless networking, configuring custom and legacy applications, custom security templates, dealing with and upgrading bizarre HDD scenarios to command line tools like gpupdate and msc utilties like rsop.msc.
I used the MS toolkit, MS XP resource kit, Cramsession study guide and an exam simulator from selftestsoftware (the MS approved simulator) - and to be honest I felt like I should have studied even more because I felt like some of the quesion areas weren't even covered in very much detail by the MS XP resource kit!
Still I did pass it, so I guess I shouldn't be too hard on myself, onwards to the 215 and 218 now I think

| Hey, Congrats on the pass!
Would you do me a favor and look at the free study guide that I have posted on our website for the 70-270 XP exam and see if it covers all the material for the exam...well as good as any Free 50 page study guide can.....It's the featured guide on the front page.No braindump material, no ads, no pop-ups, no registering. Nothing to buy. We don't sell anything on the site.

BTW, we have heard that our free 70-218 study guide was right on for the exam.

| the plan is to do it at easter when the school i work for is off. i like to think i could stand a chance if i was to take it, like, right now. but i had geared myself with work and family commitments to taking it at that time anyway, so my pacing seems to be right on the mark.
why did you choose to do 270 over 210, was it because it is the operating system you have more experience of?
i have thought of doing exams in the following order to gain mcsa: 210, 215, 270, 218.
i felt like doing 270 would be beneficial if working for a company that may have xp as well as win2k clients. though, now m$ have changed the way mcsa/msce works, i may just go for the win2k mcsa and do the upgrade to win2k+3.
though, with the speed i am able to study at (a year for a+ and over 6 months for network+), maybe i cannot guarantee there will be certification in win2k by the time i am on my secord or third exam. LOL.

| Hehe, not sure is I should admit this.....the choice of 70-270 over 70-210 was an easy one for me..... essentially I am the IT department where I work and one day last year I took delivery of some new PC's which had a choice when you started them up to install either Win2K or WinXP, I'd never really used either and I chose WinXP
I now plan to migrate the rest of my workstations at my head office site later in the year (still have about 20 Win98, 4 WinMe and 25 or so WinXP at HO). Basically I really like XP, my users like it because it looks nice and has pretty wallpaper, so barring some massive problem I would never go back to Win2K Pro.
I use IT certs to learn rather than to prove my existing skills as it gives me a structured curriculum to work around, hence I did the 70-270 to learn about XP and I plan to do the same for Win2K server and Exchange, Citrix and the other fun things I have just had installed at HO.

| did you study 215 at the same time as 270? do you wish you had if you hadn't?
all that installing from the server and unattended install, sounds like one of my first hurdles and probably needs a little knowledge from 215 to help me understand it.

| You definitely need some level of understanding of Win2K server.
I wish I had more practical experience of Win2K server for sure, I have only just got a couple of Win2K servers at work, previously (and still have) had a NetWare 5.0 server.
I've had a Win2K server box in my home lab since I was studying for my A+ but it was really a very basic setup and didn't even have AD on it til I started studying for the 70-270.
My understanding of Win2K server is still fairly rudimentary and I just got myself up to speed on the bits required for the 70-270. So I would say that you would find it really hard to do the 70-270 or 70-210 without at least some experience of Win2K server (ie. enough to set up AD, DNS (obviously ), DHCP, RIS) but I don't think you specifically need to study both at the same time.

| i think you have just convinced me that i will certainly have to read up on the server elements involved in 210.
i haven't got a clue about the practicalities of dhcp, active directory and stuff. just the concepts of them required to pass a+ and network+.
i better stop fantasising about my next exam and concentrate on pulling the final parts of network+ together. i had this thing towards to end of my a+ study where i just thought of what i was going to do next - i imagine it's the mind's way of telling the body that it's had enough of it, or that you are ready

| From what I've read of your posts you're more than ready for the Net+, certainly more prepared than I was.
My advice is just get the exam booked for 2 or 3 weeks, buy an exam simulator to sharpen your edge and this will give you the final impetus to sit it and pass it

| i can't get time off work until easter and will definately give it a go then. i am already using exam drill, but trying to restrict myself to an hour or two a week using it, for fear of memorising the q&a and obtaining false scores. |
