I am currently deciding between going for MCSA on 2000 and MCSA on 2003; however both certs except (1) of Windows 2000 prof or XP prof.

Is there a general concensus on which one is better to take? Does it even matter once you have an MCSA?

I have heard that more companies are using 2000 than XP, but then again XP is newer.

Your thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Adam

It shouldn't matter as both are accepted into either track, Win2k or WS2k3.

Hey Buddy,

True 2000 is used in more boxes now but it will only be a matter of time before companies start rolling out to XP.But I will reassure you the 270 Exam is much more harder than 210 exam.Focusing on Active Directory and Internet Explorer 6. Wish you the best.

270 is harder than 210? Do you think 210 will be retired significantly sooner than 270? Just wondering

No I think 2000 will be around for a while.
It will definetely last longer than NT 4.0.
210 Easy way
270 Harder way
I recommend you to take 210 only if you don't have at least a three workstation lab at home with 2000 server XP and 2000 Wrksttn.Like I Said before alot of Active Directory Questions and Security Certificates. If You have these preparing for the 270 will be alot easier because 270 relies alot on hands on experience.....Wish youz the best!!!

I have taken both and always suggest going for 270.

Its newer, thus should have a longer shelf life
Its basicly the same as 210 with the added content of IE6, remote administration, and some other goodies.
XP has more of a server 2003 feel and look to it

I suggest you go for 270. both are acutally easy as they have low passing scores.

I guess I agree with xakeP as it's newer but I am already using 210 at work but at home XP. So Iam in a kind of fix as which one to take.

I also have cbt's, transcender for the core 4 exams. Nothing for XP.

Go for the one you feel most comfortable with, have more interest in learning and/or you feel will offer you the most for your money.

I thought the 270 test was one of the easiest MS exams I've ever taken. Which you should take, depends on your personal goal. What do you want to do with the cert?

I've found that many companyies using XP have made the jump from NT or 98 and skipped 2K. Not many of them out there in my area.

The company I work for migrated 18,000 desktops to XP, and get this, it was from windows 95!!!!

That would be scary. Surprised the hardware handled the new OS.

Well, they had gradually updated the hardware and finally updated most machines that had to be done in some final phases of the rollout. It was quite the ride!!!

We support approx 234+ applications, approx 50 terabytes of data company wide, 30,000-60,000 calls monthly, (I won't even attempt to number the databases-over 500), etc. You get the picture, so you can imagine what a bunch of #&%*(& that is!

It gets grueling at times and you want to go and pull all your hair out while slamming your head against the wall, while peeling your skin off and seeing if you can find a rack to stretch your body out so you can scream in agony.

To me, it is not one vs the other. It is one AND the other.

Start by the 210 and get the 270 done next.

Best of luck
