| I'm a student at Kent State University and they offered a class this fall allowing us to take a Microsoft Certified Exam and if we take one we get a B, pass it get an A.
I have never taken a certification test in my life and I have the Sybex 70-270 book, along with the Transcender CD. I would like to take the test sometime at the end of October. How much studying do I have to put in for this? And how hard is it?
Thanks for the help,

| With 70-270, you need to know a little bit more than just the OS...DNS, Group policies (to some degree), TCP/IP, are all part of this test.
It is similar to the Win2K Pro test, but know the features of XP also.
Anyone else agree? | |

| I took XP (270) a few months back and it is quite a fair exam but you may find it harder as most of us take exams for a living (!) and have become accustomed to the style and what to expect (Not to say you won't pass or won't be able to) it's just that the more exams you take you become comfortable with the format.
XP is a lot like 2000 professional in terms of difficulty. All the main areas are covered:
Troubleshooting
Recovery console
Configuration
Networking
Remote assistance
WINS
DNS
IP troubleshooting
Key features
Drive rollback
Restore points
Alternate IP configurations
And of course the "XP has all these great features" questions that test you on the new enhancements of the operating system.
But as you haven't taken a certification test before I would recommend Windows 2000 professional and server exams first to get a feel for what is to come as I found XP more of a challenge as the questions are a lot trickier.
As usual StevoC is right with his comments. I would get used to the test engine first thought before attempting XP.
Hope this helps

| I agree with both Sexy and StevoC.
Sexy gave a real nice breakdown of topics and some good advice to consider.
Best of luck in your studies!

| Sounds like allot of good advice.
I just took and passed the XP exam and found it fairly easy.
Make sure you are very familiar with XP.
It also helps immensely to have experience with it in both a domain and workgroup environment.
This test not only addresses XP as an OS but also strongly addresses it as a network Client.
Good Luck.
I also found Cramsession good as a review doc.

| Congratulations on your pass I found it it to be a far exam, a mixture of 210 and 215 with emphasis on the new features.
Way to go!
