I am getting the following error when running the setup when trying to install XP Pro:

Setup cannot create setup folder. Setup cannot continue.

It then locks up my system and/or closes.

Any help would be great. What would my next course of action be?

How much available/formatted hard drive space do you have available?

Are you upgrading from within Win98 or booting from the XP CD?

Steve O

I have plenty of HD space and I am trying to install it from within 98 while its running.
Should I reboot and try to boot from the CD?
Would that cause me to loose any info on my hard drive?

Sorry for the delay:

Booting and upgrading from the CD should not cause yo to lose data. Have you run a compatiblity check on your 98 machine to verify all hardware/software is compatible? If so, upgrading from the CD should be OK.

There is no reason listed as to why it cannot create a setup folder, huh? That is usually a disk space issue or an issue with the drives format.

I was able to dual boot the 98 to get XP on there. Now I am going to test everything out on XP then eventually backup everything and reformat and then install XP only.
As far as the compatibility of the 98 machine, everything is working fine. I can't find any device conflicts but on the software side, it's another story.
Thanks for the help.
