Author exchange not creating mailbox store

I have installed Exchange 2000 4 times now, and everytime I have installed it and try to create accounts, there is never a mailbox store to point email accounts to. Is this something I should be creating after the install? I thought exchange created one mailbox store during the initial install.

I have run /forestprep and /domainprep. It is installed on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server box. The box is a domain controller and is using AD. It is also set up for DNS.

I cannot even find an area in the Exchange Manager for 2000 to create new mailbox stores. Someone please help. I appreciate it. If you need more details, let me know.

Let's get the preliminaries out of the way.

Subsequent to running 'setup /forestprep' and 'setup /domainrprep' you ran setup a third time and chose 'typical' or 'custom', including Exchange messaging components?

Have you reviewed 'Exchange Server Setup Progress' or event logs for errors?

Checked to see if all Exchange Services have started?

Check for the various shares that Exchange creates during setup?

Other issues that may or may not cause this specific issue, but good to know and check:

Licenses for Exchange in the License Manager.

Permissions for account doing Exchange Installation.

Custom...I don't add any of the additional components, such as support for lotus, etc.

There are no errors in the event log

I am not sure what services should be running, but I will check and see what is and let you know.

Shares??

Not sure where to check that.

Permissions for account doing Exchange Installation.

Logged in as local admin, and made the local admin an Exchange Admin.

Hope this helps...I'll check the services.

Shares that Exchange creates:
Resource$
Address
Servername.log

Microsoft Exchange Services:
Microsoft Exchange IMAP
Microsoft Exchange Information Store
Microsoft Exchange MTA Stacks
Microsoft Exchange POP3
Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine
Microsoft Exchange System Attendant

These are what I have running after a default install. You may see other Microsoft Exchange services listed as not started, but you should be okay.

As far as licensing, you can access that in control panel.

Another thought: were these existing users, prior to Exchange being installed? What Exchange tabs do you see in the properties of the user? Right click on a user and select Exchange tasks. What options do you have?

Sorry it took so long to reply...last minute business trip. I will get to the server by the end of the week and supply the necessary info. Thanks.

Hello, I had this problem.
The solution is:
1. Install NNTP from Add/Remove programs Windows
2. Install Exchange in custom mode and select all dependeneces.
Exchange will create drive M: for mailbox.

bye

I will try that. I am going to re-install the server because it is having many other problems. (luckily it's my test box)

I'll let you know how it all goes. Thanks!!
