hi guys/gals
We upgraded at a client from Exchange 5.5 & WinNT to Exchange 2k and Win2k successfully with little problems and successfully made the upgraded server teh companies internet mail server. Everything functioned fine except for one issue.
All external email(not part of this domain) contacts in a specific distribution group doesnt' receive email when the distrubution group sis used. My understanding is that if Exchange finds a address space that it is not responsible for it should automatically resolve through DNS or smarthost adn forward the email. We tried recreating the contacts but to no avail. Any other ideas would help.

What did you do about your Ex55 connectors?

There were only 1 5.5 Connectors. It was the internet mail connector(* address space) and with routing enabled to a smart host for the external domain which they were using for external email.
It was recreated with 2 SMTP connectors on the new server. One for internet mail and one specific for the external domain routing to a smart host.
Now the funny thing is if they were to send email directly to the external email account it goes without any problem but doesn't work when we use the distribution list.
As for directory connectors they don't exist anymore because hte server has fully been migrated to native mode and the old one decommissioned.

It seems to me that the problem lies with the distribution group. Review the properties of it, make sure its Exchange properties are all square.

Try making a new distribution group and put a few of the addresses involved into it?

Have you ran message tracking on email to the distribution list?

Do you have any settings in the connectors limiting the number of recipients?

There are some convolutions involved with DL's migrating from Ex55 to E2k, that hinge on the AD mixed mode versus native mode.
