| I finally got MS Exchange installed the right way. I have been configuring the incoming and outgoing email since last night. The one problem I am having is the postmaster account for my domain rejecting certain emails for delivery. I can recieve just fine but only certain email addresses won't send. I can send to Yahoo for example. I can't send to any email accounts for my ISP which is Roadrunner. And I also got rejected sending one to an email.com address. I am assuming that it is a DNS issue. I am a member of MyDynDNS but don't really know how to setup those servers on Exchange for resolution. Anyone have any ideas? I appreciate it. Thanks. | |

| How is your DNS? Do you have forwarders set up, pointing to your ISP's DNS servers? Mail routing can be reliant on DNS resolution. | |

| Yes. I have my ISP DNS servers setup as forwarders. I'm surprised I've gotten this far but am stuck right now. I'm always trying to learn something new. It was so much eaier to setup email on Linux. | |

| You are not trying to send outgoing email through external SMTP servers, right? | |

| No, I was trying to use the ISP DNS servers for outgoing mail. Incoming is easy. I have DynDNS. I just can't get the outgoing right. | |

| Can you ping the domains that your outbound mail can't reach? Check the unreachable domains with NSLOOKUP? | |

| I went home last night and messed with my mail server a little more. All domains can be pinged just fine. I did nslookup and I even did a Telnet to port 25 and did ehlo. I have a guide I got from the Exchange website that I have been going by. It seems like DNS and Exchange are setup right but so many emails are just sitting in the Queue and then getting sent back to me. I can send email to other mailboxes just fine. I'm probably missing something little. I should have the network connection pointing at my internal DNS and then exchange pointing at the external DNS right? | |

| If you internal DNS is set to use Forwarders, then you should use your internal DNS for all name resolution.
You don't have a "." root zone in your DNS outside of cached entries, do you?
When in the MMC - DNS Manager, right click on your DNS server, click on the Monitoring tab and do a simple and recursive test.

| Jeff,
Not toally sure what you mean by "." root zone. But, I have done the DNS test in the properties. My domain name passes just fine. I think DNS is setup right but I could be wrong. Not sure what else to look at. I appreciate your help with this. Its starting to drive me nuts.

| Well, I have been working a few hours a day to fix this problem. It seems to be a problem for all 4 users I have created. It will send to most domains but won't send any to a those few domains I try to send to. Because of this frustration and my interst in Exchange, I think this will be the elective exam I will take for my MCSA. I have the hands on with the couple months I have been installing, reinstalling, and configuring Exchange. Any help or opinions?? Thanks. | |

| I've pretty much run out of juice on this issue, without seeing it for myself. I think it is great that you would choose this as an elective though. An MCSx without Exchange, Database, Firewall or Proxy as a side dish, is going to come up a little short.
Just about every organization with a network and a connection to the Internet is going to want email, so it is a good thing to have knowledge and experience on.
Best of luck! | |

| I appreciate your help in this. You have at least sparked my mind to look at other things in Exchange to try to figure this out. I'll have to read some more about it. Thanks again. |
