Just installed Exchange 2000 on the Windows 2000 Server computer.

I went through the first exercise (on Osborne 'Administering Exchange 2000 Server') to 'Create a new OU in the Acitve Directory and name it as FirstOU' and then assin the 'Delivery Restrictions' with incomign and outgoing at 1MB max.

Now, on the second exercise to 'Create Address List', the first step is to create a new OU in the Active Directory and name it as 'FirstOU', the second step is to 'Create a new global gorup in FirstOU' and name it as 'FirstGroup', then 'mail-enable the gorup using the gorup name as the alias' ?????

How can I 'mail-enable' the group???

The next step is to 'Create a universal group in FirstOU and name it 'First Universal Group", but I can only have the option to create 'Group' or 'OU' but just cannot find an option to creaet a universal group.

How can I create a universal group???

Please kinldy help.

Is your Forest in Native Mode? You cannot make Universal security groups, but you can make Universal distribution groups in Mixed Mode.

If you create a new group, in that dialogue box you will see check boxes that allow selecting what type of groups to make, including Universal, Global, Local and whether they are security groups or distribution groups.

If you have Exchange installed properly, you should be able to right click users and groups in AD Users and Computers and access Exchange tasks such as mail enabling users and groups, etc.

If you dont see something your are looking for when you are in MMC, check out if you can select 'Advanced' under 'View' on the top menu bar of MMC. This can add functionality in alot of Windows 2000 views, such as the Properties of 'Network Places' window.

Thanks for the advices.

Now, I am in 'Active Directory Users and Computers' and cannot find the option I need.

If Exchange is installed, for those groups that are already established, you should right-click on the group and select 'Exchange tasks' from the properties dialogue. Here you will be given an option to establish an email address. When you create a new group after Exchange is installed, you will be given an option to create an address as part of the group creation process.

Dear jeff_j_black:

Thanks for your reply.

I tried as you advised right-click then select 'Exchange task', but two options:

delete e-amil addresses and
hide membership

None of them I want.

If the option delete email address is the only choice then the object already has an email address. Are you able to view the various Exchange tabs in the properties of the group?
