If there are any Active E2K admins out there, I'd enjoy a little constructive feedback on the new version of exchange.

1. I've done a fair amount of 5.5 admin and was wondering if it was still a good practice to use a domain service account for all services. In my first 2000 install with SBS, the E2K defaulted to using local system account for service start? Has anything changed that would make this a better alternative?

2. Anyone have any feedback on anti-virus solutions? I last used NAV CE 7.5 with its' SMTP gateway, server and exchange agent. I was pretty pleased with its proactive performance. Any thoughts?

3. Anyone have any articles or website recommendations on
a. Base security recommendations
b. Performance tuning

Many thanks...

1. Yes .. MS still recommends using specific service accounts for all their applications. I recommend logging in as the exchange service account to launch the Exchange 2000 installation and verifying that this account is used during the setup. By default, setup will specify the logged in account as the service account.

2. Never worked with NAV, but I also never heard anything bad about it either. I have worked with McAfee Groupshield in both Exchange 5.5 and 2000 with no problems (other than a certain incident with Exchange 5.5 pre-SP4, McAfee Groupshield 4.5 SP1, and the ArcServe 2000 Exchange Agent ... later fixed with SP4).

3. Here is a link with some good security whitepapers:

Check out the rest of this site as well. Lots of good info for Exchange administration.

Best of luck.
