| Its been awhile since I last attempted a cert test, but I set my sights on Linux+. Nothing was a given until I saw the "pass" screen (780/900). Still some of the questions I saw on the test made me realized how much more there is to learn about *nix.
Some personal thoughts on the exam. Worry less so about X Windows and focus on command line plus switches. I could go on about other aspects of the test, but its simpler to say "Download the objectives from CompTIA's website and follow them".
Lastly, I used various resources, but most will want to know what books were used so here goes...
Linux+ Certification Bible by Trevor Kay
Linux+ In Depth by Jason Eckert
Linux+ Exam Cram by Michael Jang
Running Linux (4th Ed) by Matt Welsh
Building Linux and OpenBSD Firewalls by Wes Sonnenreich
Of the books geared specifically for the exam, Linux+ In Depth is an excellent resource. However, Running Linux proved invaluable to actually learning the os and would recommend that to anyone.

| It wasn't too bad all in all.
I'd tell people not too lose any sleep over the test especially if you've got a bit of experience under your belt and you put in an honest effort to study. Everything should turn out fine heh.

| I decided to take this exam on the spare of the moment. I have been using redhat since rh7.0 at home mainly as firewall etc
I did thankfully keep away from gui as much as possible and have always configured anything I wanted from cli, I now feel this approach to using linux has paid off as with next to no study I managed to get 816/900 on the exam. I know gui is getting more and more used now, but like the A+ Exam and dos .. I feel if you know your way round the os well using the cli you will pass. I dont think you learn as fast or as much using a gui except how to point and click.
