Im new here but I have found this site to be informative and helpful!.. =)

Well anyways to my post.. I just took the Linux+ I was debating whether to post this to the Linux group but it seems like that more for RedHat Certs Ect.. This is Comptia related stuff..

First of all this thing is 94 questions long after taking the Citrix CCA that was 40 I thought this was a lot of questions.. But most um.. about 35% of it was A+ and Network+ stuff.. that’s why they had that notice on there website that the A+ and N+ should be pre requisites..

25% was configuration.. and the rest was troubleshooting and stuff. This was not a hard test I was stressing out over this because im not very skilled in linux but I did ok.. I used the Sybex Linux+ book and it was great. Some Q&A and that was about all you need to pass this.. I think I was actually over prepared for this. How many ppl have this? I don’t see many posts about Linux+ is this an unpopular test or something?

I got a 810 out of 900 BTW..

Well if anyone needs help I am more than happy to give you a few pointers.

Good job! Nice score, too. Good insights on the exam. You called it about right. very hardware centric. I think Linux+ is gaining more popularity. It pretty much reflects the Linux community, as a whole. If someone is really deep into Linux they probably consider Linux+ a little too basic and will pursue RHCE. That's a very expensive cert. I don't think LPI has gained the attention they had hoped. CompTIA just has better PR. Linux+ is a great cert to show you have basic working knowledge of the OS and have taken the steps to prove it.

Good show!

I am in the process of studying for the Linux+ test. I recently got certified on the A+ test. I am fairly proficient at linux now. In your opinion, should i study and take the network+ test first before I take the Linux+ exam?

Also, when you say you are not very skilled in linux, how many months (or years) have you been working with linux?

Thanks,
hodye

Hello,
After I had an interview and was told that if I had linux knowledge I would have got the job, I started to study. I am an IT guy but not linux/unix stuff. How lond did you have to study and was it the sybex book the sole study guide you used ?
thanks

Pitts: if you plan on going for your MCSA the A+/N+ combo will do you some good.. but if not you can take the Linux+.. the A+ is Necessary But im not so sure about the N+. I have about 2 or 3 years or serious Linux Knowledge and a few UNIX distributions. im not as experienced as I am with Microsoft Stuff..

Hodye: I used many different Study Guides, Sybex, and 1 other Full book, CBT Nuggets, And some RHCE Curriculum I also used the transcender to help me with the Q & A. From start ot finish this is what I did..
It took me 3 ½ 4 weeks this is what i did..

WEEK1: Setup and install 3 Different Linux Distributions including 1 flavor of UNIX
Study: Watch CBT nuggets Linux+

WEEK2: Recompile / Update Kernel and Install/reconfigure SMB, Proxy & other SVR’s/DEMONs
Study: Read Book1

WEEK3:Work with productivity Software and install Packages from RPM, & TAR
Study: Read Book2(Sybex)

WEEK4:Write Simple to Intermediate Shell Scripts and Understand Network Connectivity a little better..
Study: Transcender Q&A look over RHCE Curriculum & HOW TO’s To fill in the gaps.

TAKE TEST!

Well Good luck on your Linux+ I know you will all do Great!
If I can be of any more help let me know..
