I'm starting to tackle this certification. I received a desk copy of the Osborne Book "IT Project Management on Track from Start to Finish" by Joseph Phillips (ISBN No. 0072223499). Plan is to digest one chapter a day, so at this rate I should be able to complete the 12 chapters by the end of the month and take the exam on the 31st.

I have a couple of questions:

1. Any suggested additional study material?
2. Does it make sense to take the new exam or stick to the old one?
3. Anyone have a feel on how difficult this exam is?

I just gave some links on this in the following thread here.

http://examnotes.net/article1030552.html

So far examnotes people have rated it a 4 out of 5 in difficulty. Comptia says the new test has changed 50 percent of the material to more focus it on IT project management. The original test that they purchased from another organization was neutral on IT and covered more general project managment.

Several of my friends have taken the cert and thought it generally hard because they were thinking for more IT related. Therefore unless your book covers the new test specifically, I would take the old one or wait for new documentation. I will probably give it a shot next year when my to do list gets smaller.

I just took the test this morning and passed with a 96%. I bought the book, IT PROJECT+ examguide by Schwalbe, but the most useful training tools were the 2 BOSON tests, and the various braindumps scattered over the exam sites.

If you decide to wait and take the test after Dec 31, you will probably have to start over as far as studying goes.

I've used Sybex IT Project+ Study Guide and found it's OK. It's better if you can have a copy of PMBOK from PMP.
