Well this test wasn't too bad. I felt pretty confident while I was taking the test, but I actually didn't pass by that much. Oh well, a pass is a pass. The exam cram book is excellant. The author does a great job of explaining everything. The transcenders were right on as usual. I also did cert21. It was OK, but not near as good as the transcenders. Good luck to all of you.

I passed it this morning as well. Used Rod Smith's guide and thought that it was great. Basically an easy test, but too much focus on hardware IMNSHO.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that page looked like nothing more than a bunch of links to buy books. I was looking for free study guides for my classes.

Between Cramsession, Examnotes and a few choice others, you ought to be covered. Shoot for quality not quantity.

Take the exam objectives and have your students do research w/ their favorite search engine. Let them find new and wonderful sites. In other words, make it a research project and let them do the work. They might learn something in the process.

Don't you get deskcopies from publishers? All you have to do is ask.

Cheers

Rod Smith is a writer. You have to buy his books to read his study guides.

Congratulations.
I am preparing for Linux+ now. I have the Sybex Study Guide, Red Hat Unleashed, and Exam Cram LP1 Guide. I have taught Unix a few times but I find the Sybex book contains a lot of information that I have never had any use for. The Red Hat book is excellent but very large and probably contains much more than the test requires. Same for Exam Cram LP1; I find it contains a lot of information but very little about System Administration. Any guidance as to what is the best study guide? I just updated from Red Hat 6.1 to Red Hat 7.1 and have used Red Hat 6.0 and Mandrake 7.0. I have a copy of Caldera but haven't installed it. The version of Red Hat I now have includes X-Windows which I have never really gotten into. I guess I prefer not to use GUI in Linux.

To learn Linux, I used "Special Edition using Linux" and "Running Linux", but for the test I used Rod Smith's "Linux+ Study Guide" from Sybex. Lots of information in it may be practically useless, but he is right on the money as for as the test goes. I made an 800/900 btw. Also, brush up on your hardware. That makes up about a quarter of the exam, and it is sort of what you might find on the A+ Core or Server+ exams. All books that I have seen have inadequate coverage of that area.

The Linux+ exam cram book is excellant. You should be able to get it on bookpool.com for about $25. If you feel like dropping the money the transcenders are right on too. cert21 was OK, but not near as good as the transcenders.

Thanks
I have the Sybex book but haven't started any of the practice exam yet. I'll look for the Special Edition using Linux. Thanks for the advice on hardware. I still have A+ core books.
