| Hi,
I am wondering how benefitial would be to get IT Project+ certification? Is it really recognized in the market or it is a way behind PMP? It is worth it?
IF anyone has some thought about this certification could you share them with me, I would appreciate it.

| I am going to persue the IT Project+. I worked as a PM and do not have any certification, nor does anyone that I have worked with or met for that matter. The PMI certification is certainly harder, but I am not sure if either are really required or recognized. Sybex is publishing a IT Project+ book in March, so this exam is a small investment (45 for book and 165 for exam).

| Let me put in my two cents - I take IT Project+ in a couple weeks. Where I work the Gartner Group is not very well respected. They had the IT Project+ before Comptia. The PMP cert by PMI is highly respected everywhere.
Why? Because you really have to know the PMBOK, which while not guaranteeing success, certainly helps. PMP's with nothing else generally start at 75K (similar to CISSP) Other certs you have just add to the salary. Most of my research indicates 90-125K.
I am also taking classes at ESI international, which offers a masters certificate in IT PM from G. Washington U. Now to get the VA to pay for it!!
I have taken 1 of the 7 classes at ESI and let me tell you the truth. It has completely changed my perspective on running projects. This is not an ad for the company but I will tell you I will probably pay for half of it and be happy to do so. Why? Because I know what the results will bring.
My last teacher specialized in rescuing failing IT Projects. Consultant fee? $300 per hour. Did she get it? Yes. Did people dislike her for fixing the problem? Yes. I can take alot of grief at that price.
New Book Examguide to IT Project+ by Kathy Schwaibe. It is available at amazon for $25. | |

| I plan on doing the ITP+ exam in the future, probably this year. I am not yet a project manager, and may never really want to be, however it will serve to at least introduce me to some of the concepts, and perhaps give me some ideas, for the small projects that I currently oversee. | |

| Thank you all of you for your valuable input.
I believe that even if the IT Project+ certification is not totally well recognized, it is worth it in terms of getting familiar and understanding Project Management issues, now it is also true that it is quite pricey and if nobody in the market really cares if you have or not the certification that makes a diffcult decision on whether invest money and effort on something that is not going to help you at all, or go for it and try to apply it in regular working activities.
Thanks for the book (Examguide to IT Project+) I will take a look on it, I already have the one called "Information Technology Project Management" from the same author but I am not sure if this would be enough, I will further investigate.

| a friend of mine working at Andersen Consulting is taking this exam - company paid!
so I guess the BIG 5 consulting firm recognise this certification, which is good
my 2 cents. | |

| that's great - i am glad to hear it. But taking a one week class in PM, versus 7 classes in different areas still is a huge difference in my opinion. | |

| After reading some of the comments especially the one that mentioned that the certification is recognized by Andersen I am planning to start working on this certification but I before I start investing my money I would like to ask you two more questions:
1. Book
I have noticed that two book have been recommended so far as a potential resources for preparing for the exam and I was wondering which one is the one that you would reccomend, I understand that one of them has not being published yet which make its evaluation harder but maybe you have heard about the publisher and his reputation.
IT Project+ (Study Guide)
by Bill Heldman
or Examguide to IT Project+ by Kathy Schwaibe
The difference in terms of price between them is quite high. I already have the book called Information Technology Project Management from Kathy Schwaibe
2. In the objectives presented by CompTIA for this certification it is highly reccomended to pass I-Net+ first, so my question is how critical it would be to present the exam without holding the I-Net+
